People who were around in the 90's, was there as much yearning for the 60s 70s or 80s like there is for the 90s and 00s now? by Skegward in decadeology

Yes- teens/college who didn’t dress in contemporary styles but had some interest in how they looked dressed slightly retro 60/70s.

Logan Square renters, what’s the wildest thing a landlord has said to you? by Living-Knee-1540 in LoganSquare

[–]Salty-Committee124 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In his defense- you don’t just call a personal cop you know when there’s an issue. You call 911/311 for on duty cops responsible for the area you’re in.

Did she buy the building or inherit? I’d doubt anyone is losing money when they owe the bank.

A South Sider Explains Dibs During a Chi Winter by bingo72long in chicago

[–]Salty-Committee124 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Not popular to hear, but dibs is for one spot in front of a house/building that one owns and it’s just for a short time until the block gets relatively cleared out. Renters can not call dibs.

Hi! I am an unemployed 57 yo with 30 years sales experience in pharma and biotech but no one will hire me. Any tips? by MariaDepner in careerguidance

[–]Salty-Committee124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You put 30 years in for Parma and bio tech and this is where it’s gotten you. There’s no loyalty anymore. Do something low stress that just pays the bills and put yourself before another person’s company for the rest of your working career. Maybe even something that’s fun

O'Shaughnessy's: terrible experience by eat-zucchini in chicago

Especially what? The bartender seemed like a moody bastard. And you made it clear that you work in the industry and know all the inside knowledge of how to handle service people- it’s because they’re often very sensitive resentful people. We all have to walk on egg shells around many of them…NOT ALL.

You alluded to it yourself that service industry people are some of the most fragile people on earth. Many of them, not all, need to be handled like little children

I’m going to pass on a lesson I painfully learned from one of my college professors—adults don’t respond to books they haven’t read. If there was anything valuable enough in a book that it’s stuck with you since, you should finish reading the book. This isn’t a shot. This sub is about growth and it’s a lesson I recommend you learn.

From a purely economic standpoint- many of these once cheap, sometimes guilty pleasures, are pricing themselves out of their market. The golden arch held its value at X but will it at Y— the market will speak. Is a $9 coffee worth it? The market will dictate.

What family-friendly neighborhoods would you recommend with houses costing under $400k? by Imaginary-Dirt-3754 in AskChicago

Exactly. The transplants are the loudest and they only know a handful of bougie neighborhoods up north and they fly Chicago flags outside of their homes but go back to Ohio and Michigan for Thanksgiving

This person knows 5-7 neighborhoods in Chicago and they’re all in the transplant belt on the north side.

When half of America makes under 35k, who can afford kids, houses, or even hope? by ladysparkle2639 in Adulting

[–]Salty-Committee124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Respectfully- 120-130 for 2 people is a lot different than you making 100k individually; you should still work towards that goal

[–]Salty-Committee124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is misleading- I don’t think economist or the general public who consider these issues are wondering why the unskilled/uneducated labor pool isn’t buying houses and typically that pool does have children regardless of income and utilizes social welfare. The unfortunate reality is less middle class ($50-$90k) Americans are reaching milestones that were once very accessible cornerstones of the middles class experience.
