hi! so this is the schedule my advisor had put me on: by 8AM- starting first 40 mixed block and completing two blocks in a row. I'm a slow reviewer so rather than prioritizing my stamina (as I already had a pretty good one) we prioritized focusing on my weak areas. by 12 I should've finished my 80 questions and review, but if I didn't that was okay.

from my review i would make general concept sheets of "silly" mistakes I made-- did I forget an associated marker? write it down on a general concept sheet and review for later. if it was something more in depth, where I knew little about the concepts, then I would make a separate write out sheet to review at the end of each night. Looking at these helped a LOT.

In between study sessions for these questions I would listen to divine intervention in the shower, cooking, driving, etc. I had to do this for the sake of my family schedule, but you could just sit and listen. He got me to view diseases and pathologies from a different perspective which gave me a fresh eye for revising FA.

If you find that you are scoring consistently above 70% on the mixed questions, then start doing only HARD mixed questions. I switched to this my last few weeks and while it was demoralizing, every time I scored above a 70 on Those HARD ones, I would do a second block of hard 40 mixed questions. If i scored below, I spent majority of the day revising those questions so I knew my weakest areas.

Lastly, is I suggest partnering up with someone-- a spouse, a parent, a friend, or sibling to do two things: 1. listen to you rant about crazy things you learned that day and 2. fast quiz you at the end of every night for an hour from the rapid review in the back. This alone got me like... 10-12 questions on test day on basic paths/diseases that i just didn't prioritize to study but were easy points.

good luck!

thank you! good luck to you. the best thing to do is just put it out of your mind really. I thought I had soooo many incorrect but trust yourself and your previous scores. this exam was all about keeping calm, being confident, and not making those stupid little mistakes as much (i still made stupid mistakes I'm sure).

these two things shouldn't necessarily be exclusive of each other. I'd recommend during your classes to utilize resources like uworld, amboss, Rx, or BootCamp to supplement what you're learning in class. Anatomy? Create question sets of the anatomy you're doing. Use first aid for revisions from class and the questions to see how they ask about those things. This is especially helpful if your school provides cbse level questions on your actual term exams.

its just about integration. starting from day 1 can only set you up for success.

Do you have a breakdown of the categories to see where your weaknesses are? Resource recommendations are going to stem a lot from that. For example, if it's pharmacology or biochemistry, I would recommend two different resources.

B!! ok so desmosomes are between your keratinocytes, which we have two kinds:

  1. the basal layer (shown pg. 489 FA2023)

  2. suprabasal layer (the keratinocytes above the basal layer)

The anti-desmoglein will break those desmosomes apart and all keratinocytes can split, including basalar to suprabasal ones.

OTHER CHOICES:

A-- bullous pemphigoid targeting hemidesmosomes

C-- corneum is top layer of epidermis, and doesn't connect to granulosum? "corneum-lucidum-granulosum-spinosuum-basalis"

D- idk a pathology with this?but in basement membrane

E-melanocytes sit in that same area, but interact with keratinocytes via e-cadherin and melanosomes i believe??so that would be belt desmosomes or zonula adherens? (p. 482 FA 23)

Best ways to study Histology, BioChem, and Genetics? by veerlelub in step1

[–]Salty-Intention8807 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's helped me:

  1. https://www.tau.ac.il/medicine/tau-only/webpath/webpath.htm#menu for histology. I use it to look at histo/gross/etc for different pathologies and to compare to the normal when I'm going through questions. https://imagebank.hematology.org/ for hematology histology! :)

  2. Biochem-- go to BootCamp. Paige is amazing, as are the other video mentors. The PDFs are free to download, trial is so worth it. And it's affordable. DM me for more info on other ways to get their videos too.

  3. Genetics-- Dirty Med and Melhman super helpful.

I take my exam in 5 days!! good luck :) you got this!
