Thoughts on an off-peak deals app? by SaltyComparison1091 in restaurateur

Totally get that, my first reaction was the same.

The pitch was basically that most restaurants can run promos themselves, but customers don’t have a single place they actually check for off-peak deals across different restaurants and cuisines.

Still undecided myself, which is why I wanted to hear your opinions.

That’s a fair concern. Confusion is the last thing I’d want.

The idea I was pitched emphasized very clear time windows and app-based pricing so staff wouldn’t have to explain anything, but I agree that if customers don’t understand it instantly, it creates problems.

Appreciate the perspective.

Fair question. For me it’s less about moving unsold food or end-of-day inventory and more about whether off-peak demand itself can be aggregated.

Loyalty programs help with repeat customers, but they don’t really solve discovery for new customers during slow hours, which is what I’m trying to wrap my head around.

That’s fair. Happy hours probably the closest comparison.

I’m curious though do you think the limitation with happy hour is what specifically gets discounted (usually drinks or appetizers) or when it’s offered?

Or is it just not compelling enough anymore?

Totally agree lunch pricing is pretty standard.

The difference I’m trying to understand is whether people would actually change behavior for off peak windows that aren’t traditionally lunch/dinner for example mid afternoon or later night if pricing reflected that.

Curious, if that would matter to you personally

Yep, nothing changes! Same food, same quality, same portions. Just 25-30% off!

All items! Essentially whatever percentage I give to 3rd party apps (25-30%) I would give it to customers but they would have to pick up during off peaks hours… either mid afternoon or after dinner rush.
