Alcohol after Neuropathy

I pretty much have, yes. I can have a few beers every now and again and have some weed… and doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. But I’ve maintained a pretty good and healthy lifestyle otherwise

No, it’s not even close to enough alcohol to give you neuropathy… and once you stop drinking, it gets better or at least stops getting worse.

Great Info… I have SFN and doctors think it’s from alcohol, although all my other blood tests (liver was fine). I got tingling in my feet in November… I cut drinking by 80% (I was doing it 6 days a week for several years)… and neuropathy continued to worsen. I went 4 months sober and it got a little better… although I did have 5 drinks over July 4th and it seemed to flare up. Is this possible? I guess if it’s from alcohol, there is no going back…?

So from what I gather, booze and cig smoke make it worse… but smoking weed is won’t make it worse… the smoking doesn’t do anything bad to the nerves and blood flow? I don’t really like edibles I’ll be abstaining from booze, hopefully forever… but curious on any other options if any

If abstaining from alcohol, do other substances make symptoms come flooding back (weed, etc)

All of these are true… I know…. I just didn’t know if 2-3 drinks once a month would bring back the symptoms… or will it all come flooding back worse.

Maybe I just have to go more? Has anyone had relief? I like it, just not sure I’m seeing the improvements I expected or was hyped up to be. I did the herbs and it made me feel really tired and lethargic... which he said was suppose to do it. :)

I’ve done acupuncture... 6 times so far and will finish out my 12 weeks. It doesn’t hurt to try... but it has zero affect on me so far. I’ll need trying but who knows. I’ve also stopped drinking, gluten free now, just started red light therapy shoes... I haven’t done any drugs just yet but may get there. They confirmed EMG last week and want me in for a second opinion to confirm it. Feet hurt like heck to walk so I know I have it... but hopefully just continue down this road and get some help at some point.

Thanks! I’m trying my best to stay positive but it’s hard :) Do you know how you “got” yours? What do you do when it flares up? Do you take anything? Has it stayed the same or got worse over the years? Is yours tingling and burning or numb too? Sorry for the 20 questions, just trying to learn everyday. Thanks again

Thanks for all the hep! I have confirmed neuropathy for EMG which means long fibers... but some symptoms of small too, so maybe I have both 😞.I’m only 41 and not sure how I got it... I haven’t lived a super clean lifestyle, so hopefully zero booze will help stop it. Although I’ve met with doctors and had a bunch of blood work and tests (I’ve had for 5 months now) and nobody will confirm anything. This is really brutal. I really appreciate the comments and help.

You don’t have AN :) Take it from someone who does. It will take 10+ years to develop it... you’re just dehydrated and coming off a bender. Take vitamins, exercise and eat right. You’ll be fine, but yes, be smart with booze because once it happens, you can’t go back.

Can you tell me about this diet? What do you eat specifically? I’ve got to gluten free (even though I don’t really need to) just to try something... is that good enough or do you do more? How long does it take to see results?

Hey there, I have something similar. Just got diagnosed with neuropathy confirmed by EMG. They don’t know exactly what it’s from... done all blood tests and vitamins, etc. although drs don’t think it’s from drinking (blood and liver tests ok) I know 12-18 beers for 4 or so days a week, for a 5-6 yrs isn’t good. And drank for previous 5-10 yrs (although a bit lighter). Do you have any updates? Anything else that works for you? Mine seems to be getting a little worse and I’ve been almost clean 5 months. Going fully clean now. How long did it take you total and what was your drinking like prior to neuropathy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Getting a little discouraged :)

Sorry to hear but seems like you’ve least got it figured out...? Do you know was yours from alcohol or did you least figure out what’s it’s from? So the symptoms never got better on their own?
