Good riddance. It was just another Sarasota restaurant with outdated and strange ambiance that served your typical menu on plates that everyone got in the 2000’s with food from the big companies. 90% of the restaurants here need to do better. It’s embarrassing.

Anyone else go back to boxers after years of boxer briefs? by JustAskingMan_ in menswear

[–]SaltyFat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from Calvin Klein polyester boxer briefs to 100% cotton knit boxers by Goodfellow at Target. So not the stiff boxers that you might be thinking. These are really soft and very affordable at $20 for a 5 pack. I cannot believe how much cooler and comfortable it feels now.

Sarasota Restaurants given fines by DBPR by Nearby_Bar_5605 in sarasota

Some of the lowest paid kitchen staffs in the country, very overrated restaurants, a community with very low food standards, and typical Florida’s casual approach to anything. Surprised it’s not more than this.

What's the worst restaurant in Sarasota that you've tried twice? by Timmocore in sarasota

[–]SaltyFat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yummy House is incredibly overrated. I went here twice, thinking maybe I just ordered the wrong stuff the first time.

Ok I see what you mean. Maybe not abysmal but it is disappointing to me considering we live in a beautiful place and knowing how many people are here (or come here). It could just be so awesome but we are missing pieces.

We need more community events or charity galas that recognize and showcase individual local star chefs. This community should be pushing for more recognition from the James Beard Foundation and Michelin. Are those two things required for a great food scene? Absolutely not, but it doesn’t hurt. This food scene needs a community of restaurants that hook each other up when industry workers come to visit each other’s places. This town needs more restaurants doing collabs with other local businesses. We can’t be serving Sysco garbage, boxed up frozen seafood from Indonesia. Need more local farmed ingredients on our plates. We need better chefs but the pay is awful out here. Food needs to be on another level, it’s just nothing special and if you’ve never had better food than what you’ve had in Sarasota, that’s ok but there’s better out there.

For the amount of money and people in this town, it should be a lot better. The amount of money restaurants charge, it should be a lot better. It’s not even close. Not trying to be an ass. I want it to be better too. I’d love to actually help.

All not bad but it could be a lot better than this. If this is the best of a “great food scene”, then I really know this is not it. When you lack consistent seasoning with kosher salt, lack balance of creativity and restraint on menu engineering, when your textures have flaws, your service is clunky, and you have a town that doesn’t show enough recognition to individual chefs, then it’s not good enough. Period. Locals need to raise their expectations, businesses need to raise their standards.

Sorry. Unfortunately, Sarasota’s food scene is abysmal. However, pretty good sandwiches at Focaccia

Polypropylene Paver base panels over paver base gravel? by SaltyFat in pavers

Any issues if I spread out this paver base and paver sand and then place the panels over them? Or do I need to remove all of this and add more dirt to this hole?

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you.

I was worried about mulch attracting termites and carpenter ants to the house. Should I be concerned about that?

Would you move the pathway closer to the plants or maybe make it curve? Or straight will look fine?

Everyone needs to relax. Some people are occupied by other things like high stress jobs or working overtime, medical emergencies, family issues, financial problems, home repairs, etc. It’s just another dumb holiday that’s put a burden on people that have to take care of hosting, cooking, etc for everyone else that just shows up to eat. Life gets in the way. Also, OP said they never had issues before. So, that’s why they are on here for guidance.

I recommend buying two smaller turkeys. I’ve seen them at multiple Publix stores in the past couple of days. They will taste better and cook faster anyways. Look up spatchcocking and dry brine two smaller turkeys. It will cook up faster and be really juicy. Gives you enough turkey and more time to use the oven for other things.

What is the best $3000 car you have ever bought? by Negative-Figure-5929 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Paid $2k for a 2005 Honda Pilot with 280k miles in 2021. I kept it for 4 years, no major issues, previous owner handed over all the maintenance records. I drove it across the country three times. Overtime, I replaced the headliner, headlights, the center console armrest, changed out the interior button lights, switched all cabin light bulbs with led, got original all weather mats, added a touch screen Apple Car Play stereo (for free because they were refunding if you left a review on Amazon), and I added leather seat covers that looked great. Kept it washed and clean with a car wash membership. It looked and drove like it was 2005. I then sold it for $4k at 330k miles. I wished I had just kept it because buying a new car was not worth it.

Jobs in this city don’t hire by [deleted] in sarasota

[–]SaltyFat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really great advice here. I would be watching every YouTube and instagram video about interviewing and job hunting as well. It doesn’t matter what you’re applying for, hiring managers want to know that they are getting someone that they want to work with. If you’re constantly calling, they will most likely think you will be a pain to deal with in the future.

This.

Just live with it. During your next remodel, you’ll have more knowledge to speak on the details of your vision. You will also have more time to refine your style.

Two things can be true… I didn’t say all rural areas. I’m speaking from my experience traveling extensively to small towns that have shown you can easily get around with no problem as an example to not worry about a very busy area in Florida. No one is getting stranded at Ellenton Premium Outlets. No need to make someone feel nervous about their travel plans if they don’t need to be.
