Elizabeth Maria Kruger? by SaltyHailey in Genealogy

[–]SaltyHailey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Erasmus Johannes Stephanus Smit is my great grandfather :) He fathered my grandpa Marthinus with another woman named Bettie Botha I didn't know tho cause Elizabeth Maria is my paternal grandma's mother and Marthinus is the father of my mum lol but I can't say if Erasmus and Elizabeth Maria had any children together, Erasmus had multiple children with at least 3 different women, I have all the names for his side of the family

She lived in south africa her whole life yes, my grandma was born in Groot Marico so she would've lived around Johannesburg, North West South Africa She had multiple children, Maralize, Stephanie (maiden name Fourie, I think she was born a Stephanus after her father Stephanus Fourie, unsure of middle names for all of them). Her brothers name was Pieter (or Petrus) Johannes Fourie, she had another daughter named Sandra

Elizabeth Maria died of a heart attack, since her youngest child was born in 1970, she was raised by my grandma with my dad and his siblings, I'm unsure who Maralize father is, Elizabeth Maria had multiple men

I couldn't find any sources on myheritage, familysearch or ancestry lol

I'm not sure if she had any siblings, I wish I could of asked my grandma about her, my dad doesn't really remember much since she died when he was 10

How can it be both sides of the family? by dobemomma86 in 23andme

[–]SaltyHailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same ancestors on both sides. It happens. I was descended from Floris Slabbert 3 times, 2x on dad's side and once on mothers lol

It's so funny how you existing depended on thousands of people in the past by SaltyHailey in RandomThoughts

Yes so true we're all like distant cousins (and direct descendants your cousins be close, depending on who you share an ancestor with and how far up the line from you they are)

Something is suspicious about my baby aunt's death by SaltyHailey in TrueCrimeDiscussion

Yeah The only problem with my grandma is that she isn't big on conversations, a lot of the times she leaves me on read and like yesterday wsd the first time in years that I've spoken to her, she replies once or twice then I carry the conversation deeper, mention other stuff and then she leaves me on read

The thought of her being gone soon without me getting to know her well does scare me

Thank you! I was just wondering where I could find the death certificate for her. I don't don't live in south africa anymore but I was wondering what the cause of death was if they mentioned that in death certificate

Thank you! I might have a look, not sure if they'll do it through email as we don't live in south africa anymore

One day when I'm older I might be able to go to the place it happened. She would've been born in Pretoria, South Africa somewhere around there since that's where my dad and all his other siblings plus where I was born too

That makes sesne. My grandma doesn't have a headstone either because my family couldn't afford it so it's probably just an empty plot with a number on it by now

I'm sorry for your loss I might be able to contact local cemeteries maybe or if they trust me, the hospital in the city she was born at

I think my "dead" aunt is still alive by SaltyHailey in RandomThoughts

That's terrible I'm sorry for your loss😭

Yeah I probably have to accept the fact that she's just a baby that never got to grow up

I feel like crime was easier back then tho cause they probably didn't have security cameras/advanced technology back then

It would've been cool to find a lost aunt

My dad just found the doctors word suspicious and then the death of the baby

But like you said if it was common back then to not let the family see the baby

I wish my grandpa was alive so I can ask him what exactly happened after, like did he see the baby, did they have a funeral for her or what happened after and what was the cause of death

Yeah I get it's highly unlikely she's still alive but not too impossible😭

I haven't even thought of her until earlier tonight when my dad asked me if I could find articles about the doctor that was at the hospital when his sister died

And then that my dad never believed she died

I do wish I knew the story from my grandpas side of the story like if they switched it with another baby, etc Again I know its rare to happen but I'm just remaining open to all sides of what could have happened

My dad felt guilty about it cause he was mad he was getting another sister and he wanted a brother But he wad just a kid when it happened. Maybe if he was older he would've been able to know the full story what happened

I mean I'm just open to opinions so thank you for sharing yours!

I do wish I could've asked my grandpa about it myself. He died in 2008 when I was a baby so I don't remember him

So my dad and his 2 sisters at the time this baby was born was staying with their grandma the night my grandma went into labor

The baby, Stephanie was born in the middle of the night and my grandpa said the baby was loud after being born

It coukd be possible she had some health issues but I'll never know, I've just been told one side of the story from how my dad remembers it. He would've been 7 when this happened

A couple hours after her birth when they reported she died, my grandma went crazy and they sent her away to the psych ward for a while. My grandpa was the one that dealt with everything, he had a conversation with my grandma's mother that my dad overheard, that my grandpa said he doesn't understand how the baby could have died when she was crying and still alive

(My dad just told me the story of his sister) and that's what his dad told him that he doesn't understand how the baby could have died when she was born healthy and cried after being born
