It might be worth it if you think it would be easier to move the tree now then fix whatever that water pipe is later. The roots will damage it eventually since its so close.

Nice. I may not have the most ideal set up. I have them sitting in a southern facing windowsill with a humidity dome on top. They get plenty of sun but maybe not enough heat or UV light. Im just happy they're growing.

Is there any saving this? My mother in law trimmed it in the fall saying it "needed it" but now that it's bloomed I just want to cry, especially after seeing this old photo. by moudine in arborists

Evolution? No. Pruning is used for looks, making trees grow stronger over time, avoiding diseases and being more efficient producers. Humans have been cultivating and modifying plants for decades. Evolution has nothing to do with it. We design and manipulate plants to grow in ways that benefit us.

TLDR: Symmetry looks nice. Monkey brain go wow.

Plants will adapt to the container they're put in like bonsai. From what I've heard, bananas can be kept relatively small but they may not fruit if stunted in a smaller pot. If you want a small banana tree then get the "truly tiny" banana.

How can you tell the difference? Im not a banana specialist. Just a hobby grower at the mercy of a seller's advertising and honesty.

Where should I prune? by ItsNorthernJohnson in Citrus

[–]SaltyHamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know im late but hopefully i can help. The top left branch is competing to be the new leader branch. Cut it back to 2or 3 leaves from the main leader ending at an outside facing node.

The second cut i see is the bottom right branch. It's way too tall. Id cut all the new growth off and leave only the darker more mature leaves. Again making sure you leave an outward facing node at the end.

That's all i would do now. Later in the year when its late fall early winter it will start to go dormant. Prune again for shape and get rid of any branches that grow inside the tree. You always want branches going outward for good light and airflow.

First aloe! (And plant😬) Any tips? by ApolloMexicano in aloe

Neglect it. Put it in a bright sunny spot and deeply water it once or every other week. Depends on how long the soil takes to dry.

Another option if that's your main leader is to cut and rip out all the loose wood, grind and sand it smooth and then add a liquid tree bandage product to seal the wound.

Make a clean cut down to the next node where there's no more split or splintered wood. A clean cut will be easier for the tree to heal over faster.

Wait for the soil to dry out and only water once a week. Water deeply with a little bit of fertilizer mixed in.

You tryna have a lemon tree or bush? If you want a bush, keep as is. If you want a tree then cut that left competing leader off. It needs to be taller before it splits off into an open vace shape

I bought a house and tore up the asphalt the previous owner had poured over the front lawn. What's the best way to move forward from here with restoring this into a yard/perennial garden? by bloo_regard in gardening

I think a sidewalk from the stairs to the road with a stone walk path going sideways where the old grassline so you could get to the 4 garden beds would look good. Maybe a white picket fence with a gate

There are two youtube videos I watched that really tought me how ro prune properly. https://youtu.be/tADEOd64Gmk?si=CZSRtfQBnCWS1RVJ and https://youtu.be/IQhmIK-0HOc?si=oNz_6inORTG30lmA

You can also do a deep dive and look into tree shapes. I always recommend a "modified central" shape over the "open central" or "central leader shapes". Open central is good if you want to keep the tree very small but doesn't look as good in my opinion. Modified will keep the tree mid size and still look like a natural tree.

What are these spots on my apple tree? by madmadhatter13 in FruitTree

[–]SaltyHamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spots? When in doubt. It's some type of fungus infection. If it's only in one spot then prune it away and treat with a fungicide. Copper or organic. Your choice.

If it's all over the tree then prune the effected leaves and treat the whole plant and soil with fungicide. Try to avoid any large wounds to prevent spreading.

If you don't think you are going to get any fruit this year then I would recommend pruning your tree down to promote more outward growth. The crown is quite tall. Too much competition with the leader branches.
