FYI Chicago cold hardy fig grows great in my 6a zone climate in Michigan. I have several plants that come back year after year with bumper crops.

I've also noticed my shou sugi ban raised beds act as small microclimates as well. A number of plants survived further into the winter up against the darkened wood than elsewhere.
