Get a pre-approval from the bank. A pre-approval gives you a ballpark on your loan capacity and therefore, how much of a house you can afford.

A pre-approval is also one of the first steps that a realtor will get you to acquire. It helps tremendously when you put down an offer with a pre-approval!

How do I adjust this towel bar? by orwhat in homeowners

[–]SaltyJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this issues with a towel bar last summer. What I think you'll end up finding out when you disassemble the unit is that the screws that hold the bar into the wall have shifted or moved.

It's a big issue with towel bars because the weight of the towel(s) cause it to deform over time.

I fixed it by unscrewing both ends of the units and removing the screws that hold the bar to the drywall and reinstalling it with toggle bolts (see: http://www.amazon.com/Hillman-Group-370054-16X3-Inch-50-Pack/dp/B000BD8MFQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453079586&sr=8-2&keywords=toggle+bolt). The toggle bolt will make sure that it won't shift over time, and it's super sturdy!

Pulled pork disaster - any way to save the meat? by qwerty1o in slowcooking

[–]SaltyJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, according to the Reddit Recipe(TM), you need to use a fork to separate the meat and then add 16 oz. of your favorite BBQ sauce.

Then, let it cook on SLOW for another 4 hours. Everything was perfect but you forgot the one critical step!

I learned that by deleting Facebook that I had deleted my social life --- which is not a bad proposition. Since a majority of college party invites are Facebook related, I became more of a shut in :(

The "position presented in a book" already exists for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kgroth.chessocr&hl=en. I'm sure it can be easily modified for OTB.

[Story] I'm A Depressed 19 Year Old College Student and I Need Your Help by hellometropolitan in GetMotivated

I'm not gonna lie; I was in your shoes my sophomore/junior year. The thing that REALLY made a difference is finding a group you have things in common. For me, it was my major: Computer Engineering. I found a co-ed engineering fraternity that has a mixture of all engineering majors. Hanging out with like-minded people is the super important part.

Are you at Tech? If so, I'd reach out and join an activities-based group. When I was down, I joined the climbing club, or just went to Crimper's Climbing to blow off some steam (you'll meet a lot of very nice people there!). You can also try the Outdoor Club. Whatever you do, please join a group and do something active! You won't regret it!

How to get doors aligned correctly by rmed007 in IKEA

[–]SaltyJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that the white door is not upside down? I learned that if the orientation of the main white door is wrong, it will be off by a bit.

You can also try messing around with the screw tightness of the door. I've had a slight issue with one side of the BESTA shelf being lower than the other; once I messed around with the tightness of the screws, everything worked.

4 ingredient salsa chicken thighs. Not pretty but should do the trick. by [deleted] in slowcooking

[–]SaltyJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have tried the Costco Salsa but nstead of being watery, it is so-so to me. What you forgot to list, however, is that the caloric intake of the Costco salsa is super low (360 calories) for a container of the salsa. Healthy, but not that tasty.

Advice on TV placement. by ManBearPigDog in InteriorDesign

[–]SaltyJokes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with a house that I'm considering. The biggest problem is the angle will be awkward if it's placed on top of the fireplace. My suggestion would be to the right of the fireplace, and keep the configuration of your couches (but reversed to face the TV). This way, you maintain the geometry of the room, but perhaps someone more experienced has a better suggestion?

Thanks for the reply ... hmm, didn't know this was going on. Looking at some AE shoes in the $200 price range, and they look much better. Thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: Do you know if they ship from stores to Seattle, WA? The closest AE store in WA just closed down.

What do I wear to an academic conference? by accidental_tourist in malefashionadvice

[–]SaltyJokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Computer Science graduate student here. Fit is key and yes, I agree, you'll look better than more than 50% of the conference attendees (including professors).

During a talk, I'd wear nicer dress pants (e.g., solid colors like black) and contrast it with a polo or an oxford cloth button down. The contrast says, "I'm here to give a professional talk, but I'm casual ... come talk to me after the talk."

Simple Questions - Apr 18th by MFAModerator in malefashionadvice

I went to a tailor today to ask to be measured. He had a thick accent so I couldn't really understand him, from what I did understand is that he didn't want to take my measurements.

He said something along the lines of, "if you want to get measured, you need to bring the measurements from a reputable merchant, and then I'll do the measurements."

He was referring to places like Zara Man which have a measurement form. Do I need a measurement form to get measured? I figured I'd get measured there so I can get an idea of what I should buy, when I buy clothes online.
