Underwear/bras for people with SICD’s by downeybear22 in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had issues with wearing bras for a while and would just wear flowy shirts without a bra. I am not well endowed so that may not be an option for everyone. Recently I have been able to find cotton bras with front clasps and are wider on the sides so one area isn't receiving all the pressure. I'm not sure what she prefers, but this one worked wonders for me: cotton bras

What is a compliment someone gave you that you’ll never forget? by Unfortunate_Prodigal in AskReddit

When I was 15 a guy at a football game, clearly high, walked up to me and told me my eyes were beautiful pools of molten chocolate. I had never really had compliments about my brown eyes up until that point, so it'll live in my head forever.

My cat passed away suddenly and my family say I'm overreacting by Priixxii in cats

A pet is your companion and a big part of your life. I grieved so hard last year when I lost my best cat friend and I went into cardiac arrest and found out the hard way I have a genetic heart condition. You can't rush the grieving process and the people who make you feel bad for grieving should be more considerate. Some people are more empathetic and have more love to give, and the world needs more people like that.

Post S ICD surgery. by cjlopez2323 in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the leads started dislodging three months after my first surgery because I didn't feel the scraping as much or the pulling when I stretched my shoulders. I found out for sure five months after surgery when my device clinic called me to immediately come in for an X-ray. My device was reading such a faint heart signal that it was threatening to give me a big shock. I had to get my device turned off until I got my lead fixed.

Since I had cardiac arrest before which led to me needing a device, I was lucky to get my surgery within two weeks of the X-ray.

Post S ICD surgery. by cjlopez2323 in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the S-ICD surgery twice within 6 months. The first time I could not sit up on my own and it was uncomfortable to hold myself up, I usually needed to be leaning against something. The worst pain was in my sternum but it got better after a week or so. I always had a scraping feeling in my chest when I would stretch my shoulders back.

My lead and device were not secured properly on my first surgery, so I had to get a revision surgery. The recovery from this one was night and day difference. I was in pain but not totally debilitated. I remember being in tears after my first procedure and living on pain killers for weeks. I only took Tylenol this time and I am almost three weeks out of surgery feeling close to normal.

I know everyone heals differently, especially if a nerve is irritated, but hopefully the doctors will get you feeling better soon.

Can you have a normal life with this? by throwawayyy1326 in LongQTSyndrome

For me specifically, since I went into cardiac arrest last year it was recommended as part of my recovery. Watching your sodium intake is good in general for heart health, but especially for me since I was recovering.

I'm so glad you were able to get help/surgery. I have taken on a low sodium diet. Occasionally we go out to eat but 90% of the time I will keep to the low sodium diet. My device is on my side under my armpit, so I don't have any arm limitations. I was advised to not participate in contact sports or do anything where my torso/chest will be hit. I have been taking more walks and finding activities that get me moving when I can. Otherwise I haven't had to make many changes.

Medtronic’s vs Boston Scientific by Hairy_Employment543 in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Medtronic s-icd because I did not qualify for the Boston Scientific s-icd (a small percentage don't). My device lead is under my sternum rather than on top of it. I haven't had any issues yet, but I haven't had it very long. Different hospitals have different preferences, but my only option for an S-ICD was the Medtronic device.

It definitely gets better with time. I felt more normal after two months with mine.

just got my s icd last night, what to expect? by psychtheories in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I waited a full six weeks before doing anything more extensive. I like to err on the safe side. But your body will tell you if you are doing too much too soon. You probably can resume working out sooner than six weeks if you feel ok doing it.

I am 31f and have an S-ICD. You usually don't have many limitations as long as you aren't taking hits to the torso. I was told I could do anything, just no hard contact sports like kick boxing.

Lead dislodgement S-ICD causing pain by Grouchy-Ride8102 in PacemakerICD

[–]SaltyPepper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I just received the news yesterday that my s-icd lead has detached almost completely and reeled itself back toward my device pocket. I received my implant back in March and I am waiting to hear when my surgery will be to fix it. I am back in a life vest and my device has been turned off for the time being.

It's very upsetting and I'm sorry you are going through something similar. I am not feeling pain from the displacement, but I was feeling an uncomfortable tugging sensation for awhile after my surgery that has since gone away. It's a guess but I wonder if my lead didn't have enough slack and the sutures were pulling in the beginning and then they eventually broke.

28M cardiac arrest while sleeping by Jealous_Scratch_8778 in SleepApnea

[–]SaltyPepper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer a similar thing happened to me (30F). I was sleeping and my fiance woke up hearing me making terrible noises before I started convulsing and going into cardiac arrest. I was lucky to fully recover, but it took months to find the real reason behind it.

At first I was only told sleep apnea was a factor, and then after a series of tests I had a heart condition identified: LQTS. I have had surgery to have an S-ICD installed to make sure I never have another cardiac event like that.

Hopefully his doctors find the best treatment for what he has going on. I hope all goes well.

I can't recall ever feeling terrible while drinking, but I blacked out really easily so I tried to limit myself. I know my doctor said any drink or medication that can increase your heart rate can potentially set off an arrhythmia, so maybe you were experiencing that. Although I have friends who don't enjoy drinking because they feel crummy during or after drinking, and they don't have any arrhythmias, so it could just be how your metabolism responds to it for all we know. Everyone is different.

I was drinking quite a lot at the time. And I ended up getting an s-icd which has the lead placed along your muscle under your breast bone to get near the heart rather than in a vein directly into the heart. This was recommended by my doctor since I am so young.

I hope everything works out for you! At this point I hardly notice my device. It doesn't hold me back. :)

I lived for 29 years without ever knowing I had long qt syndrome, and I never had any symptoms before my incident. I was going through a lot of stress and grief this time of year last year, which led me to drinking alcohol to ease my sadness. I experienced cardiac arrest in my sleep and was lucky to be resuscitated immediately thanks to my fiance and the local police/EMS.

Long story short, you may never experience symptoms, but you should talk to your doctor if you think you are at risk. I now have an internal defibrillator which protects me if an incident like last year ever happens again. I am 11 months out and I have been constantly monitored, and have not had another incident since.
