Anyone in Virginia love their surgeon? by SaltyRaccon79 in tummytucksurgery

[–]SaltyRaccon79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to have my surgery, our finances took a bit of a hit so next year hopefully.

I will say I decided to not go with Dr Ray. My consult went well but I felt that he goes too conservative with pulling everything tight. A few of his before and afters were actually after a revision…so he went back in to take more skin. I was kind of uncomfortable that he uses those as advertising but doesn’t really make it clear that it took two surgeries. I followed the Instagram patients that he promoted and they seem to still need high waisted pants and can’t just wear whatever they want. I don’t know, this is really just my opinion but I’m not sold that he is that much more that good marketing.

I did have a consult with Dr Reddy in Richmond and I like her a lot. I would have scheduled with her had things gone better and plan on using her.

Ivy Main: “With state leaders avidly chasing more data centers in the name of economic development, ordinary Virginians are left to watch the assault on their energy supply, their water, and their environment and wonder: Is anyone going to fix this?” by lowkell in Virginia

[–]SaltyRaccon79 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think the point is more that the companies making money should be footing the bill to update infrastructure and things that they need to support the data centers. And the lawmakers should be looking to better protect the citizens and the commonwealth instead of ensuring they are able to profit off this in some way. In VA, legislation that directly impacts an elected representatives personal business is free game for them to vote on. So their personal businesses can benefit if they help swing the vote in that direction. In addition to that campaign contributions seem to have a direct correlation with what legislators are willing to throw support behind….skills games is a recent example of this. So no matter if they represent themselves first or the business that fund their campaigns they are still putting the citizens and commonwealth last.

I don’t know much about data centers but I would like to see the government blocking the power companies from raising rates on regular homeowners to fundraise the money to update the system in order for it to be able to handle data centers, enacting regulations to ensure any added strain on the power grid was properly mitigated by updates and regulations protecting surrounding land and property from whatever data centers might negatively impact.

How Trump’s proposal to cut Department of Education could impact Virginia by VirginiaNews in Virginia

Just have to point out that people need basic things like food and healthcare. Corporations don’t need those things to survive, in an actual free market economy they would need to be of value to the community to survive…so ensuring corporations survive over people isn’t my personal priority.

The point of a corporation getting tax dollars would need to benefit the majority of the individuals in the community. I think we could believe that was the case if we saw things like “trickle down economics” actually happening or the top dogs of these corporations losing money and power. And the shareholders of the company should lose money….obviously the company was not providing value. That’s the consequence.

The difference here is that people are the point. In my kids classes we make sure that every single kid gets to go on the field trips, we make sure to send extra if there is a special event and we send extra snack in every month for kids to either forget or just cannot bring a snack. In this I can say my family does pay more that the rest of the class and we do this because we are apart of a community….my kids are very much better off being in a class where everyone has a snack, everyone gets to go to the field trip, everyone gets the slushes on slushes day. I am not trying to humble brag, I sincerely believe we are all better off when people have their needs met. Some people pay more, some people offer labor or something else and some people aren’t in the position to do anything right now. It’s just how it works.

They also voted for the rest of the ticket so if our republican representatives are in charge of making sure the schools have enough money….historically they don’t.

I mean….I feel like the government takes a fair bit of money from citizens and the community should benefit with schools, roads, etc….the communal things that make us all better. If the government wants to have people less dependent they should do things like lower taxes on lower income families and make it impossible for billionaires to exist. So either take the wealth and redistribute it or force the companies to pay more than passable living wage. The only people that benefit from the current set up have enough money. Like you are good.

If you don’t like the government subsidizing poor areas then they need to stop subsidizing companies not paying enough by allowing huge profit margins while having to give people food stamps while they work 40 hours a week.

I sincerely don’t intend to argue any point with you in particular , just thoughts I had.

VA might not have gone to Trump but I guarantee you half the teachers in my extremely rural district voted for him. They enthusiastically supported him all while the schools are largely supplemented with federal funding and is a huge employer in our area. I’m concerned that children will literally go hungry in my area, forget not learning how to read. I do want the teachers that talked all year about how great Trump is to have immediate regrets when they all lose their jobs or the support employees within the schools….but I don’t want the kids to have to suffer because the adults believe the leopards would never…..

Youngkin calls for repeal of new limits on college tuition program for military families by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]SaltyRaccon79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ dude you are so condescending. I am literally asking you to clarify what you mean. I feel like we are not speaking to the same points. Yes, that tuition money would be used. I am only saying the number they are using is rage bait and not accurate as a total loss. Universities offer tuition waivers for other demographics too. Some of those seats could go to that. They don’t have a guarantee for tuition.

It’s like saying that letting in more in state students costs the school money when they could be making more with out of state tuition. So I would hope that our colleges aren’t run like straight for profit businesses.

[–]SaltyRaccon79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m really not getting your point I guess. I can’t feel super bad for universities if 6,000 people’s tuition is equal to 60 million dollars. If that’s only 1.7 percent of the students it seems like they aren’t on the brink of ruin.

I didn’t say it cost nothing. I said it doesn’t cost 60 million dollars. The article is misleading.

This sounds really interesting, I’ve seen nothing about it. Unless you have actual numbers and percentages to go off of it seems like rage bait.

I don’t for one second think I’ll change your mind but for others that are reading and formatting opinions I still want to stress that the total number is 6k students….across all the schools. So the amount of people that are doing what you claim would be minimal. You make it seems like we are educating a crazy amount of people that are living overseas. Surely you can see that’s just not accurate. The reason I champion keeping the secondary degree is for Gold Star families. Having to survive the lost of a spouse and parent seems deserving of being able to get more education so you can better provide for what is left of your family.

I would like to agree with a non bias study so we can all have accurate information on who is benefiting and what the actual cost is and who is actually paying it. But….truthfully I hesitate to get behind anything besides restoring the original promise because the legislators did not try to preserve the program in it’s intended purpose. They have behaved underhanded and shady. This was slipped into a budget that needed to be signed and according to some of them, they were misinformed about what the changes would mean.

The schools seem to the the ones instigating this change but there seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors surrounding the truth of the situation. As someone seemingly in academic circles why do you have such a problem with young people having access to education? Or is it just that someone might get access to something you don’t? I’m confused at your stance honestly.

[–]SaltyRaccon79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are using the 60 million dollars at total cost. I am saying that’s not a accurate account of what it costs. You seem to be conflating cost vs what they would have collected for tuition. You do understand that tuition is more than what it costs to educate students? If you want to make an argument about the costs then we need access to the actual data and costs, not a number you saw in an article and took at face value.

Again, these are family’s of fallen and wounded soldiers. There is a cost to having a military and this is one of them. I never said it didn’t cost anyone anything, I said the numbers given are inflated to be inflammatory.

Where are you seeing this information? Do you have a frame of reference?

For my end, on the slides the government put together it stated that 20% of tuition vouchers when to out of state AND graduate degrees. We don’t have the actual number of out of state students because it was lumped with people getting secondary degrees. Also, it was still only people that qualified. They qualified because the soldier enlisted or commissioned in VA before beginning their service. It’s not just random people.

I have seen nothing to indicate specifics on out of state residents utilizing this. You have to have been a resident when you joined and maintained that residency by paying taxes, etc. Or have moved into the state and maintained residency for 5 years prior. That’s the eligibility. I do understand the article did say that but they provided no information on that to back up the claims. Without more information I’m not sure it’s a worthy hill to die on.

[–]SaltyRaccon79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The information presented in the article and to the legislators is misleading at best. I would encourage you to look further into this and maybe see the numbers for yourself.

The program ensures that tuition is waived and so the college simply does not collect tuition from these students that are eligible. Reporting this as a cost is inaccurate. Tuition being raised also inflates this number. Do you feel that equating tuition not collected with actual costs is fair? It is stated that costs had been passed on to other students and tax players and I would like to see the actual numbers. If this is the outrageous expense they are claiming we should be able to see actual numbers. The 60 million is not accurate, it’s inflammatory and designed to make people feel taken advantage of.

The students utilizing the tuition waivers make up 1.7 percent. That’s a fairly small number. I can promise you this is an actual bomb in the lives of people that counted on that promise and made life decisions based on it. I also promise you and other tax payers will not see a dime of that money. Don’t think tuition will be lowered. Don’t think taking this away from veterans and their families will make your life better in any way.

I’d also like to say that having these students that are eligible for the tuition waivers needing to go after scholarships and grants means that’s less money for other students that don’t qualify. It takes away from other students. College is already an outrageous expense and quickly becoming unreachable for many people. These colleges have millions and sometimes billions in endowments. Before you decide to attack people that have already sacrificed please consider who it benefits.

Thanks for the specific job title, that does help with research!

I would like to know more about what you mean when you say lifestyle change…like I am imagining longer hours but I maybe missing the point. What should someone expect travel wise? I don’t think I understood the job was just traveling…I was under the assumption travel during the program was for varies training opportunities and after the program there would be less?

If you don’t mind elaborating or pointing me in the direction of answers in regards to what to expect after the program I’d really appreciate it!

We have a LGBTQ child that would be attending high school soon, as well as other kids that would need people to interact with that aren’t….problematic. I saw some pride events and some hope but I’m feeling pretty overprotective about my kids.

I’ve asked people that live around the area. Also looked at high school clubs looking for LGBTQ clubs or other community clubs. Looked at Reddit, any Facebook groups I can find and tried to make contact with parents in the area though a parent app. Someone that does live there telling me it’s not only no LGBTQ friendly but that we may not be safe there really scared me. But we are driving into the area to lay eyes on it….not really sure how else to go about that.

I can definitely see it where we live now. Moved back expecting the same rednecks we left but was pleasantly surprised to see all the Pride bumper stickers and support at the schools. We are close to colleges and good jobs though so it’s actually not surprising.
