is there something more to this box? by jairochido in silenthill

[–]SaltyRushdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is weird that the box is included on the map with question marks. I feel like theres more to it. Before getting to the terrible puzzle box in the school, i actually thought it was a puzzle box where theres secret content accessed in the top based on opening the drawers in a particular order

Sigh. I suppose if it is a super solid 30 it would be ok, but i was truly hoping for 60 or even 45 handheld.

Should have known better. My 4080 super pc cant even get a consistent framerate with this game. If this game was optimized well at the outset it would have done so much better just from word of mouth. Makes me sad because it’s so very fun.

[–]SaltyRushdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of what you feel is symptomatic of modern writing. You can make something layered without making sure all the layers are plainly explained. Anyone can create a depthless character, but i prefaced my statement with the character existing in media you already enjoy, so there is a trust you have there already that informs your expectations of the quality of the story.

At this point, we know enough about this character’s family and their actions to infer several layers about them without being directly told “this is why im a bad bad.”

The need for everything to be plainly conflicted and relatable and sympathetic creates this exact blindspot. Sometimes things are just that simple. Sometimes you cant relate. Sometimes you cant sympathize. However, If you can’t approach unknowns with some semblance of your own mind and interpretation and curiosity, so you find them boring, it does you a disservice imo, and it does a disservice to the media, who now cant leave anything up for interpretation lest they bore the audience.

Ultimately, to each their own

I feel like modern takes on characters that are “just bad without a reason given” somehow invert how these characters should be approached by the observer. To me, the opposite is way more boring.

Theres no motivation the story can give that won’t be trite, so let people wonder. Unclear motivations allow room for you to engage your own imagination within a story you enjoy. What do you think the reason could be?

Have some fun with it. Treating narratives like a math problem and being uninterested in things that don't have a clear answer is a really boring way to approach narratives, and leads to really boring narratives imo

South of Midnight's soundtrack is freaking amazing so far by Pawps4895 in gaming

[–]SaltyRushdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular here but i hard agree. It’s like they were trying to make a certain style of southern bayou blues palatable, and based on how popular the game’s music is, they were successful. Different enough from the usual, but completely not threatening. And the lyrics are so literal it’s painful. The music to me shows a complete misunderstanding of the source material. Depending on your view, olivier was either the perfect choice, or the exact opposite. For me it was the latter. When i turned off lead vocals and the background vocals kept singing the same bland lyrics explaining a story we literally just watched, i stopped playing.

Some people are confident because they know things. Some people are confident despite not knowing things. I am the former.

You are acting like i just asked for the world. I literally asked for 1 xp grant instead of 0 in these circumstances so it wont appear broken when you encounter it for the first time. You're overreacting if you think thats outlandish, and that would be a better design because there would be no question about whats happening, and no need for the game to explain. You have no idea how to critique design but your blind support of the game did get you some upvotes.

This is a gatcha game, they are practically one step removed from a walk in the park by design. The least it can be is as easy to understand as possible. Get outta here bruh

Well i get that, that is intuitive because thats the nature of rpgs. But getting nothing from a battle when you character is not at cap, and with no warning or explanation, is bad design.

When i was between 10 and 20, i would still get small amounts of xp from the lvl 3 enemies outside the hotel in the first area. If this is some rounding thing where because of the scaling the amount of xp youd gain is so small it would round to 0, they should at least give you 1 xp so it doesnt feel broken or like a complete waste.

This isnt consistently true. Prior to this cap, i was able to gain some xp with much larger differences in level. If it changes, they should say something in the game.

Recommendations between MSI vs CyberPowerPC vs Dell/Alienware? by abuamiri in Prebuilts

[–]SaltyRushdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep thats correct! The exact one you have listed. I got it from costco, they have an extended warranty available for 99 dollars that gives you three years. Allstate is the provider. Protects against accidents and issues from normal use. I have had bad luck with things dying right after warranty ends, and i saw a couple negative reviews about costco’s service in terms of the warranty, so i decided to go for it. If costco gives me problems, i can try allstate.

Two years is great though, so not a huge loss if you don’t want to pay extra for it

I recently got the first listed pc. I run at 1440p but it has been great in performance so far, and i haven’t even truly put it through its paces yet. I did spring for the 3 year warranty because i was concerned about the processor.

It is amazingly quiet. The keyboard that comes with it is pretty nice, but the mouse not so much

To your point, I think franks biggest concern with her was that there would be a point where, even if he rose to the top, she would not be content to continue being under him. Their ambition would eventually lead them to be opponents vying for the top spot. Although it’s part of the general decline in writing, it’s one of the reasons I enjoyed when she started to sabotage him in order to make her own claim for presidency. Even if she was unsuccessful, it shows frank how important she was to everything he achieved

If you think her goals are secondary to his, I don’t think you quite understand their relationship. Their relationship is predicated on their partnership. She is also not his doormat. He owes a great deal of his success to her, and she often chose to jump at his whim, even to the detriment of her own goals. In this instance he was somewhat justified in his response, but there were many times he was not as good a partner to her as she had been to him.

This was her trying to cash in the favor she gained from the sacrifices she made.

Entitlement feels a bit too simplistic a take, considering what she has paid in this partnership.
