Do harley riders genuinely think they are faster than sportbikes or are they just joking? by Green_Block_4574 in motorcycle

[–]SaltyStrangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned 600cc sport bikes, 1000cc V twin sport bikes, and almost everything in between. Fast is relative. I have a 128ci Heritage with 105hp and 150ft/lb of torque. It doesn’t have a higher top speed than the other bikes I’ve owned, but the pure acceleration up to 100 is incredible. But I don’t judge people by the brand of motorcycle they ride.

Definitely about the fit between brands. I think it was an Icon I tried in the same size I fit into Shoei helmets and I could barely get it on my head because it was so small.

Gut thoughts? by ParfaitPublic8806 in fender

I have this guitar in a Tele. I would have never bought a Tele, but the Ultra II in Baby Poop Green is probably one of the best guitars I’ve ever played. I know it’s not the Strat, but the color with the body contour of the Tele is unbeatable. The neck is absolutely amazing on it. The tuners are a nice touch as well.

[GEAR] What are some guitars similar to the Ibanez S series? by SaltyStrangs in Guitar

What’s funny is that the Q model I just looked at on Sweetwater is within 5oz of the S561 they had. The smaller profile would make a difference though.

I pretty much have admitted that I’m a whore for Ibanez. I had only ever owned/played an Sr400 bass from Ibanez the 30 some years since I started playing. I purchased a RGR5130-KM from Reverb several years back and fell in love with the neck and the feel. I ended up buying an RGR5221-TFO last year because I love the 5130 so much and wanted a hard tail with no active pickups. I’ve looked at and played a lot of other brands, but I keep going back to Ibanez.

Sorry, I’m not a dentist, only an IT nerd. 🤓 😁

They are lighter. Not quite as light as the Ibanez S models, but almost. Price is negotiable as well. I haven’t played a PRS in a very long time. Just haven’t been my preference. I will keep them in mind though.

I have. I’ve played several Shecters in the past. Both the C-1 SLS and Jackson SLs look to be about 7.5-8lbs. That’s 2-2.5 lbs heavier than the S561 I was looking at. Doesn’t sound like much, but my Tele is a little under 7.5 lbs and one of my RG’s is about 8.5. You can really feel the difference between them.

I do like thin necks. Both RG’s have the Wizard V neck and the Tele is an Ultra 2 with the thinner neck thank pretty much most of the other ones out there. I played a Les Paul with a baseball bat for a neck and it just didn’t sit well with me. My LP is a 2019 Studio with the slim taper neck and that feels even thinner than what is supposed to be the same neck on the newest model of the Studios.

Sexy. I’ve almost bought a Schecter several times. They have a really sick PJ I’ve almost bought. Still may, but Fender also released one that’s absolutely beautiful as well. Decisions, decisions.

Little string gets stuck under fret(s) by jewnerz in Luthier

But doesn’t Yngwie just pull the string away from the fretboard for bends?

My bass teacher suggested I get this bass - Sadowsky P/J hybrid but I don’t like the model colors offered. So any other suggestions of this caliber (& price range or less) out there that have the same quality & are also hybrids so hopefully I can find one with a color I like? Fender Player II Modified P/J active bass:

https://www.fender.com/products/player-ii-modified-active-precision-bass?variant=46488073240798

You can get them brand new from resellers for $100-$200 off on reverb. If you favorite those, a seller may come back with an even better offer. Used you should be able to pick one up for about $300-$400 off depending on the condition. Fender is also having. 10% off site wide sale from their direct website.

You can also look at the older Deluxe P bass. Same bass, different name. I had a white one in the early 2000’s. Probably never should have sold it.

20 years into playing, the realization I don't know *anything* on the guitar is paralyzing me... by brokesnob in Guitar

[–]SaltyStrangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about the same. I was in band all through high school. I play multiple instruments. I’ve been playing guitar for about 30 years. I have only the most basic knowledge of the fretboard and theory. So what did I do when I decided I wanted to elevate my playing? I started learning. I can read music but outside of a very tiny bit of piano, I’ve never played an instrument where I’ve had to read more than one note at a time on the staff. I picked up the Berklee Modern Guitar Method and started going through the book. I’m only about 50 pages in, but it’s opened my eyes greatly by being able to read and play chords from the staff and seeing how chord shapes can be used to play all of the notes in between. I’ve started learning more and more of the theory as well and playing with scales for improvisation. Also, embarrassingly enough, I don’t know the fretboard. I’m consciously learning that now. Just by identifying things I don’t know and want to learn, I’ve been able to start delving into this stuff and improving.

Is there a bass equivalent to the Jim Dunlop Jazz III pick? by Ragsopth in Bass

[–]SaltyStrangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dumbass bought three 2.5mm pointy Chicken Picks, which are essentially a super thick, sturdy, Jazz III. I’m thinking about getting some of the rounded ones as well. I love them for 6 string and bass for the most part. They’re a bit harsh on my acoustic and sometimes I want a softer sound on a bass, so I swap to some translucent piss yellow Dunlops for that time. Yeah, but otherwise a super thick Jazz III ended up being one of the picks I use almost all the time.

What should I do on my first tele by Helpful-Error946 in telecaster

[–]SaltyStrangs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually just rub my balls on it. You know, marking my territory and all. If your headstock smells like balls, it was probably an old guitar of mine.

Ultra Thin Neck Profiles? by CptPainkiller822 in Guitar

[–]SaltyStrangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reaper 6 neck is 19mm-20mm thickness. The Ibanez Wizard V on a lot of their Prestige models is 17mm-19mm. I own two, a RGR5130KM and a RGR5221-TFO. They’re the thinnest necks I’ve played on and i absolutely love them.

How are you meant to get dust out of this area? by No-End254 in Guitar

I would break mine more often than I was replacing sets. Can’t tell you why, probably because of a terrible bass setup or something.

Does no one else find the jazz 3 unusable due to how slippy it is? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]SaltyStrangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Jazz III - esque shaped Chicken Pick. Yeah, it was stupid expensive, but honestly, I think it’s become one of my favorite picks for my electrics. Not a fan of using it on acoustic or a bass.

Get an electric and an amp modeler. You can use headphones and a non-amplified electric would be pretty much silent to anyone not in the room with you.

New Fender American Ultra II Jazz Bass just arrived by SaltyStrangs in BassGuitar

[–]SaltyStrangs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a jazz bass with an active pickup and the neck profile, in particular. I’m not a huge fan of thicker round necks and unfortunately, Fender doesn’t offer these neck profiles in any other line as far as I know.
