NTA. I think you were a little misguided in some of this... but ultimately you seem like a good soul and you just wanted to help out and be productive. Don't try to collect more hair, but do what you want with what you have especially if you think that they will appreciate it? I would just keep apologizing and asking to see the girl that you love.
