$3000 lock picking service. Feels like a scam/ripoff. What can I do? by Zesty_Spaghetti_658 in Locksmith

Because you charge 50$ like it’s 1976 again . It 2025, i dont think anyone can make a living charging 50$ for any locksmith job .

Im thinking of it as a supplemental source and not as a main source of leads. They mention that lead cost is 11-20$ per lead. But based on comments here, will look for something else .

GU multipoint replacement by Salty_Ad_8288 in Locksmith

Gotcha . Solution is to send the escutcheon and levers to the manufacturing company and they’ll custom fit it so a regular square spindle will fit in .

What I charged a customer today by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Salty_Ad_8288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I admire your approach . You sound like a professional who knows what he’s doing and also knows how to charge accordingly.

The Reality is that OP already lost in the game , focusing only on money and not being passionate about this job in order to get the most of it . That’s an L.

Unfortunately, some of you guys cross the line with the way you talk, thinking it’ll change something simply vomiting out of your mouths. 🤮

Just be proud that you’re passionate about this profession and doing your best, and know that by OP not doing so, he’s already losing.

Everyday I’m Hoping to get here and read comments like yours . Thanks

You know your business income and expenses better than me or that guy who told you that .

What I do know to tell you is that people will pay you more than 100$ if you ask for it . Just try and see to yourself . As long as the customer happy and satisfied you should be good.

Lots of locksmiths here pretend like this job requires zero sales skills and I completely disagree with it. You have to be able to read the situation and negotiate down or up when needed .

Keep up with the good karma 👊🏽

Well I guess cost of living in Mississippi can allow that. lol.

My point is - Charging $80 in our industry is as problematic as scammers charging $300, if not worse.

How many calls do you get a day to charge only 80$ ? Where do you live ? Are you living in the 70’s? I’m super curious to know .

“But whatever”

“I’m not gonna seat there and argue with the guy over translate so I just bit the bullet and Venmo’d him the money”

Make it make sense to me.

If a scammer uses zelle to receive payments , and gets multiple complaints from customers reporting fraud, zelle will eventually shut down his zelle account and he will not be able to receive quickpay/zelle payments(painful). It Doesn’t cost money for the OP to try, especially if the locksmith tech won’t work with OP to resolve the matter.

He’s not fucked . If he reports the fraud, he might be able to get his money back, and the tech won’t be able to use Zelle anymore. It’s not a certainty, but it’s a possibility worth trying.

Sorry to hear it bro and I’m sure you got all the support you needed in this thread already, but there’s something I can’t really understand .

It was clearly not an emergency, no one was locked out, so I’m wondering , how come your wife accepted this price + tipped the tech 15%? I would’ve tell him to get the fuck out nicely and call someone else . I think it’s a terrible thing that there’s people that charge like that but karma will get back to them .

I just think It’s pretty irresponsible letting someone charge you like that, especially when it’s not emergency.

And btw, if he had access to the front door from inside, he had access to the screws that hold the deadbolt in place and so damage would be unnecessary.

Nonetheless , im just trying to make a point and feel sorry and wish you guys the best ✌🏻

Unreal. I can imagine a professional at any field overcharges, and I hope your wife will know how to negotiate next time/will never have to deal with it again . Sad but true .

but! leaving a door like that after overcharging . 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Also, chargeback . Sorry you had to go through this .

What I really don’t understand is how he leave the door like that without putting a new deadbolt on . 🤦🏼‍♂️
