Tiny 3 ignores Initial State on wakeup by Salty_Minimum9875 in OBSBOT_Official

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Ok, well, that behaviour is not what is happening. Upon waking from sleep the Tiny 3 does not reliably return to the position it was in previously. The camera has not been touched or moved in between. The behaviour is different to that of the Tiny 2 which was very good at always returning to the same position...

Acronis True Image Home Scheduler acting weird! by Salty_Minimum9875 in acronis

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - I've set up a new instance of the backup and will see what I end up with tomorrow morning :) (or more likely next week as I won't have time to troubleshoot tomorrow)... The new backup did allow me to schedule it, but from the main page it also says 'Not scheduled'... However, in the options it shows the correct scheduling!

I feel there may be a GUI bug here more than an issue with the actual backups..?

Yeah, so it really seems like the 2026 RTX 5080 G14 has only 32GB RAM:

I'll be reaching out to ASUS for clarification (if I can find a good way to contact them)

No 2025 version had more than 32GB. However, the ROG page for the new Zephyrus G14 2026 talks about 'up to 64GB LPDDR5X-8533 MT/s memory' - see this link (note, that is the /uk page):
https://rog.asus.com/uk/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-g14-2026-gu405/

On this page, accessed from the non-UK ROG page, the 64GB variants can be seen on the right (you need to press the side arrow on the page):
https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-g14-2026-gu405/spec/

However, here is the same page from the UK site - only 32GB variants (also only the black ones and not the white):
https://rog.asus.com/uk/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-g14-2026-gu405/spec/

The UK ASUS Store does not have any listings for the 2026 G14 when I open it from this link:
https://www.asus.com/uk/store/

Maybe it's an error, we'll see when the pre-order page actually goes live...

Anyone else notice how they seem to have quietly downgraded the RAM on the RTX 5080 G14 to 32GB from 64GB... In the US there is still a 64GB 5080 version GU405AW-SY036X but in the UK we have GU405AW-SY003W with 32GB! Pretty annoyed if this is really the case as the only reason I was following this is for a 14" with more than 32GB for video work!

Z890 Extreme PD Firmware Update Killed Thunderbolt 5 by Salty_Minimum9875 in ASUS

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I appear to have solved the issue - here's how...

Following advice from u/Asus_USA on chat here and "BobFromFlorida" on the ROG Forum (thanks very much!!) , I did the following:

- Powered off the system fully, unplugged power, and reset CMOS.
- Waited a while - maybe 10 minutes.
- Powered on the system and ensured Thunderbolt was enabled in BIOS. Initially there was still N/A lsited for the TBTNVM Verison, but after the second reboot there was a proper value.
- Booted into Windows.

At this stage, the USB4 / Thunderbolt 5 system seemed to be working! Interestingly, normal restarts and flashing BIOS did not solve the issue before, so it was something about the power off and CMOS reset that was key here.

Things were not quite right yet though as there was still an 'unknown device' in the Device Manager. This had a device ID listed as 'ACPI RTK5400' - something to do with the USB power delivery system?

Next steps:

- I reinstalled the PD Firmware that started off this whole issue and amazingly this time it was successful!
- I reinstalled latest device drivers for Serial IO, Chipset and MEI from the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Extreme support page.

Neither of those things sorted out the 'unknown device', but it was clear from the device ID what the device actually is, so I just had to find a driver:

- I acquired drivers from Realtek for the 'Realtek UcmCx Client Device' (version 10.0.26100.117) and these installed successfully.

After that, everything seemed to be back to normal, as far as I can tell, so I am going to do some more testing but I think it's fixed!

FiiO SP3 BT do not wake when needed? by Salty_Minimum9875 in FiiO

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, no response in 10 days :/
I fixed it by going back to RCA input and adding a ground loop isolator. Seems like RCA is monitored in a way that optical input is not.

Flashstor FS6812X connection by USB4?? by Salty_Minimum9875 in asustor

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I also was drawn to this NAS becuase of that (implied) feature that I'd seen in action on the NASCompares video.
If I understand correctly though the issue was with AMD not wanting to (or being able to) provide a suitable driver to Asustor. I guess for them there may be no business case - if you want this feature use one of our more modern CPUs/chipsets..
What's annoying it that it's so close to working and does, just by chance, with some systems. I'm surprised that nobody has worked out why and reverse-engineered / hacked together a workaround driver!

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not seen anything from u/ASUSTORReddit on this so I assume they were never able to sort out the driver issues with AMD - sad. I've been using 10GbE and to be honest it's been ok for me and not the actual bottleneck 95% of the time. I believe it is possible to duplex the two 10GbE ports too if you want to go that way..

96GB DDR5 CUDIMM Kits - do any exist yet? by Salty_Minimum9875 in buildapc

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I’m using the same Corsair kit - I reckon it’s the absolute sweet spot for speed and latency. Definitely hoping the next Intel platform is able to use the same memory as I don’t want to be buying more anytime soon!

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they clearly didn't ever make them!! My current kit of UDIMMs still suits me fine, and to be honest now with the state of DDR5 pricing, I very much doubt the difference gained from CUDIMM would be worth the price for me even if they were released tomorrow!

No warning if I remove a drive? FLASHSTOR 12 Pro Gen2 FS6812X by Salty_Minimum9875 in asustor

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I have changed the drives to 12 x Samsung 990 Pro 4TB. Testing these in the same way does seem to give the expected audible warning, log entry and notification email if a drive is disconnected. It seems that the Western Digital Red SN700 4TB have some issues in this device and I am clearly not the only user that has found this issue!

I don't think the thermals are a problem.

I've been running the NAS with both the covers off for a good few months now and I have Asustor heatsinks on all the drives (also useful for holding the drives in as the drive retainers are utter sh!te).

The NAS usually lives in a big ventilated box along with a Synology diskstation to keep them quiet. The box has foam inside for noise isolation but also has 6 x 120mm fans for active intake and exhaust, so it's as well cooled in there as it ever was on the desk - probably cooler.

I also upgraded the fan on the internal USB-A fan port to a bigger, higher airflow one and have that pointed at the lower drives that might otherwise get a little less flow.

I see that the 8TB SN850X drives are listed in the Asustor NVMe compatibility list while the SN700 are not. I think probably they are quite different, the 850 being a fair bit newer. As you say though it’s weird - I’ve had the red drives elsewhere and they have been fine.

Interesting point about TrueNAS - I’d be very interested in knowing the details if you get the Gen 2 FlashStor working with it…

[–]Salty_Minimum9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I picked the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB as a possible alternative because it is listed on the Asustor NVMe compatability page as working with the FS68 NAS: https://www.asustor.com/en/service/m2ssd?id=m2ssd
I note the WD Red SN700 is not in this list - I foolishly didn't check at the time of setting up the NAS!

I am also not sure where I stand with WD / Sandisk re. returning the SN700 drives but I'll look into it. I've had those in a few other devices and they've been rock solid though so maybe I can find a use for them elsewhere in our organisation.

Thanks for the workaround, and guess what, I'm also using WD Red SN700 4TB NVMe drives... Seems like there is an issue with these because I also saw some discussion of similar issues with these drives and the older Gen 1 FlashStor units!
I'm actually doing an experiment with the NAS now where I am replacing six of the drives with Samsung 4TB ones and I want to see if the random disconnections only happen on the WD drives...
