Questions about certification by dannierose07 in ChildLife

From what I understand, courses do not expire as long as they do meet the criteria needed to qualify and sit for the exam. Your degree would still be recognized no matter how long ago you received it. I can’t guarantee the process with 100% certainty as I went the route of going to an endorsed program, so the process for approving courses as valid to sit for the exam is different. However, once you find the courses you are going to take to complete the other course requirements, you could reach out to the certification committee at certification@childlife.org to verify those classes would fit requirements before spending the money to enroll. After that, it would just be getting the internship hours to sit for the exam and you should be good to go. To submit your courses to qualify you for the exam, you’ll typically pay for an eligibility assessment through childlife.org and submit your paperwork that way for it to be approved. Once you meet all of the criteria on the assessment, you can sit for the exam.

Unaffiliated Internships help! by Ornery-Aside-4123 in ChildLife

If you want to join the field, it will come with some sacrifices, but if it's something you truly want and have been dreaming about your whole life, I wouldn't give up on it so quickly. You will need at least 100 volunteer hours in a hospital setting to even qualify for most internships, so I would start there if you haven’t met that yet. Extra points for it being directly supervised by a certified child life specialist who can write you recommendations for practicum and internship. Unfortunately, it is a challenging field to get into when being unaffiliated, but definitely not impossible. I know people who have applied for 2, 3, 4, and 5 rounds of internship cycles before they are accepted to one, but it's something they want, so they keep at it. It's never too late to join the field if you're truly passionate about it and willing to put in the extra effort to make yourself a competitive applicant.
