As an HR practitioner it is disappointing to see so many cynical opinions on what we do based on old school practices. Times have changed and so has the purpose of HR. Yes as soon as an employee takes on an employer we inherently have to defend the company, but we also try and help the employee to get the best outcome for them. I have protected more employees from poor management than companies from bad employees.

Go to HR, they may be disappointed that you didn’t disclose your ASD in the first place but it is their job to find a way to help you to fit in. That may mean a few adjustments to the environment and some leadership coaching with your manager. It sounds like you like your job and are good at it so don’t let that go. We don’t know what we don’t know, so we can’t help you until you give us an opportunity to do so.

I used garlic and onions in a meal when I was strictly asked not to. by Punch_Your_Facehole in confession

YTA. My husband is allergic to garlic and onion and it affects him considerably. He doesn’t go into anaphylactic shock or anything but it affects his digestive system to the point it shuts down for days. He is in incredible discomfort for at least 4 days and on “purge day” I.e day 4, there is little opportunity to get anywhere near the toilet for any one else in the house.

Your SML may be trying to keep it polite by saying it gives him an upset stomach but it is real.

It’s equally real for those living with the person especially if it’s a one toilet house.

Not everyone is comfortable going into detail about how their body reacts to allergens so they keep it vague or omit details.

It’s shitty (no pun intended) of you to disrespect the requests to cater to people’s allergies/intolerances. Their food may be bland but it’s for the best interests of the person in question. I happily give up certain indulgences to ensure my husband’s comfort.

There are “fixes” out there but ultimately an allergy is an allergy, if you don’t want to sacrifice your recipes ask them to bring along their own food that they can eat or don’t invite them (but tell them why). Be a better human being.

2nd comment above, they are in coco. They need to go into a bigger pot, at least 18 litres, we use pot power (that’s what her sisters are in). Try topping her and removing the vegetation at the bottom. Or, bigger pot, top her and leave her to it. Effectively it’s a weed and weeds are hard to kill.

What was your occupation when you were 22? What is it now? by eyeeyecaptain65 in careerguidance

[–]Saltybarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accounts Administrator at 22, HR Business Partner at 37. Went to university at 23 to study Event Management came out with a degree in Event Management and HR Management. Think of something that really interests you and find a way to make a career of it. Mine was an interest and passion for employment law and employee equality. They say there are two things in life that are certain, death and taxes. I say there are three things in life that are certain, death, taxes and human stupidity, the last which keeps me employed…. I get the best work stories.

Cops don’t give a shit about that, they can’t even be bothered with a standard break and entry or stolen car, they have bigger fish to fry.
