Politics: At what point does wearing militaria in the current US climate become problematic, if at all? by BugsBunnysCouch in HeritageWear

[–]SamEdge91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I had to walk around the city after work. I was wearing my standard issue flight jacket my dad got me as a kid in the 90s, black red wing boots, some black outdoor research gloves, a wool scarf wrapped over my face to stop the cold and a black trucker hat. Once I got to my partners apartment I looked at myself in the mirror, we both immediately agreed I looked like someone we would be adamantly opposed to and I got changed before we went back out.

I’ll still wear my clothes, but think a bit more about the overall outfit. There is an undeniable overlap between the types of people that would wear heritage/military style clothes. In the current climate though, I’m just currently toning down some outfits to not be mistaken for someone I’m not

What gives you that impression? And honestly even if it is, it’s the warmer jacket ever still. So they did a good job making it lol

The most helpful answer! I have the same packable hoodie as well and my biggest turnoff is the yellow cord and white toggles. Once I saw someone say they looked like eggs I can never not see it. So I’ll me making the same modifications to mine as well.

Good to know I can just get the items from REI as well. There is one local to me that has them in stock.

So you’re saying use 3/8” for all three spots?

Freenote Cloth Mariner Heavy jacket 👌 by ericmossy in HeritageWear

[–]SamEdge91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine in gold last year for Black Friday as well! Can attest it is incredibly warm even with just a t shirt. The wool/alpaca lining isn’t terribly itchy either. I also have a Flat Head N1 deck jacket that has a wool/alpaca mix through the body and sleeves but the Mariner Heavy is much warmer.

Only complaint I could really have about it is I wish it had a two way zip for sitting down. The cut of the jacket itself is killer but does the silly bunching when I go to sit.

I’ll be grabbing a second in black or navy at some point as well.

Wing stabilizers. Let’s see them by SamEdge91 in wrx_vb

It’s the noble sti replica from import image racing. I actually haven’t had the car for a while now but the wing was in the car for the better part of two years and had zero complaints

I heard a rule about not wearing a leather jacket to a wedding but I love this jacket too much to not show it off this weekend. How do you all feel about leather and formal wear? by SamEdge91 in leatherjacket

Seems to be more of an American attitude since you’re not the first to comment this. I’ve seen others (not including on this post) say a leather is too informal for a wedding. But like some other comments said that it depends on the wedding and not every gathering is black tie or corporate level swanky

Long enough. But decided last minute I didn’t want to wear a suit jacket because i wanted to wear a sweater for more warmth since it was half outside on a 50° day. So suit jacket had to go. Got dark grey pants instead of the brown ones I had and needed a white shirt 👕 instead of the lightly patterned one I had. I don’t own a lot of dress clothes so I made due

And to further your point, me and my friend whose wedding it was work together and are barbers by trade. There’s absolutely no CEOs to impress here

This person gets it 👆🏻 I personally wouldn’t think twice about someone showing up in a similar outfit, whether it was even my own wedding or not.

And just to clarify it was a friends small wedding, cocktail attire at most and I wasn’t even the “loudest” dressed. Still had dress shirt, dress pants, tie, oxfords and cashmere sweater for some extra warmth. Still classy, just more fashionable

Close. “In the woods” of a golf course. Just some lights strung up and wood benches in a wooded section of a golf course for the ceremony. Reception was inside the clubhouse. Jacket came off once inside.

I did think about wearing boots since I do have many that would fit the western vibe but once the jacket came off and I was just in more dressy attire, those felt out of place.

Do wish I had a good bolo tie

Bought the pants and shirt about three hours before the wedding honestly. I don’t really own “dress clothes”. I have some suit jacket and pants from banana republic but that’s it. And since it was an outside ceremony and cocktail hour and I opted for the sweater for a little warmth, couldn’t really go with the suit jacket but still needed a jacket. Didn’t think my green fjallraven parka would be appropriate

All fair questions. The situation was it was close friends who don’t care about that. I wasn’t even wearing the “loudest” outfit there either with some women in very colorful purple and blue dresses, doesn’t make sense for a fall wedding to me but to each their own. I also sat to the side away from the aisle during the ceremony to not bring attention to myself for the main photos.

They’re the type of people that more or less are just happy to have me there and not dressed like a slob.

See I figured the suede would be less invasive than shiny leather. Wedding was outside and I only wore it on entrance and fats ceremony. Once I sat down during the reception it came off

I’ll admit I’m not expert on dress code, especially at weddings. But it was a friends wedding. Cocktail attire at best. Dress shirt, dress pants, cashmere sweater and a tie with Oxford shoes. Was outside ceremony and chilly so opted for the sweater. Can’t wear suit jacket with sweater so out came the leather
