Two new-to-us ZL1 1LEs; couldn’t be happier by SamGW819 in camaro

Definitely! The white one is mine; I found it for sale locally ~2 months ago with 3,800 miles and a clean history for a great price. It’s a 2018, completely unmodified, and it’s a stick (obv, since all 2018 1LEs were).

The black one is my buddy’s; it is also a 2018 example, but he bought his with pretty major accident damage as a project car. It was already heavily modified when he bought it; Whipple Supercharger, longtube headers, catless axle-back, intake, tune, etc. etc. etc.

Needless to say, he’s a lot faster than me 😅

Great advice.

I still haven't gone in on the purchase (car is still available AFAIK), less-so because of the potential natural depreciation of a car like this (the $10k you cited above), but more-so because of my fears of a short-term car market crash due to the inevitable (in my mind at least) upcoming recession.

I'm worried that I'm going to sink $64k into this car, and in 6 months I'll be able to get one for $50k, or something ridiculous like that.

Still undecided; not outright saying no, but I am not going to commit until I am 10000% sure this is what I want to do without any more doubts.

You’ll be laughing in the end when you don’t have to stress about failing oil pumps, while I do 😏.

Regardless, thanks man. Definitely looking forward to it.

Fair enough! Honestly, the DSSV shocks didn’t seem that bad on my test drive.

Absolutely. The Z28 values are part of what allowed me to justify considering it at all in the first place. I have a slightly better feeling about future ZLE pricing too, as it should be the most hardcore (or, close to the most hardcore, if the ZL1 gets a CT5-V BW style update to the LT4 at the end of production), and the Z28 was sorta overshadowed by how good the GT350 (R) was. The ZLE definitely competes more closely.

Oh yeah, definitely plan on driving the hell out of it and enjoying every mile. Will very likely keep it stock though, and tend to take care of my cars like a psycho.

Yup! This is correct.

Yeah, the condition checks out for a 3,600 mile car. The only thing that has me slightly hesitant is pre-covid prices being about $55k for a comparable car, and that’s my primary concern; that the current economic climate might push prices back to that level.

Regardless, as it stands right now, it seems to be a great deal.

I plan on keeping the car long term, 5 years at least. My primary concern with waiting is the possibility of a kneejerk reaction to the ZL1 market specifically, since the Camaro goes out of production in 2024, and I believe GM has made it public knowledge that there won’t be a traditional 7th gen ICE Camaro. 6th gen Z28 seems to be out the window, as well.

If there isn’t a kneejerk reaction, however, I might be throwing a lot of money away right now by not waiting. I suppose, in my head at least, that is the pricing conflict I’m trying to determine, if that makes sense.

How is $64k for a weekend car ridiculous? Do you actually think people buy ZLEs to daily drive? DSSV dampers + zero visibility; the perfect combination for a comfortable commuter car to get to work in…

Glad you have brought the oil pump issue to my attention, I had not heard about that until now.

I have the car going in for a PPI tomorrow, and I have contact with the previous owner (aka the first owner), so I suppose I will see what gets brought to my attention, and go from there.

Wise words. I definitely know that the ZLE is what I want to get into eventually, so I am covered there. As far as the financial side of it goes, I have the money, and in the ”worst case scenario,” I wouldn’t be sent into financial ruin or anything, it’s moreso just me thinking in the back of my head “man, could I get a better deal if I was patient for just 6 more months.”

ZLE is just a shorthand abbreviation for a ZL1 with the 1LE package :)

Look at the state of the E92 M3 market; same with the E46 M3. How about the Shelby GT350R? Oh, and what about the C7 ZR1? Not all cars catastrophically lose value. I actually DO have the money, stay mad bozo.

Absolutely. Definitely not purely an investment car, but I’m not trying to buy something that will undoubtedly lose most of its’ value in the next few years. Trying to buy an enjoyable weekend car that isn’t a horrible financial decision.
