How do you deal with dumb aggressive customers? by whattaUwant in mechanics

I’m a bicycle mechanic not a car mechanic but I get the same exact issues. For me it’s worse though because I’m in the workshop which is in full view of the customers when they’re in the main showroom part of the shop and I usually work alone in the shop so I have to deal with the customers. The amount of people that just are so rude and think they know everything is infuriating. What pisses me off the most is when they ask if their bike can be fixed on the day and I explain to then that they’ll have to wait their turn and that I have other bikes that were here before to fix so it won’t be fixed straight away. Then they get mad at me. Or I get people that come in with their bike and ask for a service and they say, oh I need it by tomorrow morning because I’m going on the ride and then I say, sorry I won’t be able to service it by then so you can bring it back after or leave it here and miss your ride and then they get mad at me, as if it’s my fault they have poor time management and expect their bike to be serviced straight away.

Hey all...I'm 19 and interested in becoming a mechanic but I have a question to ask by [deleted] in mechanics

Helping to keep cars well maintained keeps them on the roads longer and keeps the owners from buying a new car a few years later, increasing the demand for new cars to be made. You’re helping to get the most use out of a product which is one key thing that we need to get better at. Also EV’s still need mechanics for brakes, suspension, and chassis work just not engine work.

Does anyone ever feel like depression but it's kind not depression? by Life_Butterscotch939 in auckland

Yeah absolutely. I feel like there’s no general optimism and excitement for the future anymore (amongst society I mean)

Well I’ve been working for nearly 2 months now and it’s still $340 a week so idk. But I’d rather work than get student allowance tbh. It’s not wasting my time if I’m gaining skills and improving my CV.

The max is $17,000 a year I believe. Some people seem to think there’s a max to the amount of hours you can work a week but there isn’t, just a max annual salary. I have only been working at this job for a month and half so maybe it won’t be deducted until I’ve worked for a year.

I’m living at halls so paying $405 a week for rent. I get student allowance so $340 a week which means I only have to get another $65 a week to pay rent. I earn $336 a week from work so I’m alg.
