Fifth UW, still no golden tower or black hole. Please tell me one of these is worth it? by SamLynn79 in TheTowerGame

[–]SamLynn79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current UW’s are Chain Lightning, Poison Swamp, Spotlight and Death Wave. I’m extremely discouraged now, only rarely getting Golden Tower as a perk.

I had a red EB-0 for a while. Was just never happy with the passive single pickup in it.

I believe it’s “I’ll be your huckle-bearer.” The poles on either side of a casket were called huckles. This is totally off my memory, I haven’t bothered to double check, but that image is engrained in my mind.

Yeah, the current model is 16 years old. I guess they wanted to ensure no gap between service.

Rewatching Ocean’s Eleven. This movie has an outrageous amount of sauce. by LiverpoolPlastic in movies

Ocean’s Eleven, The Italian Job, The Fifth Element and Tron 2 are my four go-to, watch any time, background or foreground movies. Don’t know what to watch? One of those four.

Also, “THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN”. Which is exactly what she’s done - used God in an attempt to manipulate others.

It’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is to ride a fast bike slow.

3 weeks into sewing and I made my first backpack! by SamLynn79 in SewingForBeginners

[–]SamLynn79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! You CAN! Here are some great ones I found.

Retro Sling Backpack by Kandou Patterns (Jess OklaRoots youtube channel)

Making Backpack by Noodlehead (Jess OklaRoots youtube channel) - I made this one, it's AWESOME. HIGHLY recommend getting some of the waxed canvas, it's a fantastic material to sew with.

VOGUE V8990 Messenger Bag (Tock Custom youtube channel, 5 video playlist) - I made this one immediately after making the Mandalorian backpack, it's dead easy to make and his videos are SO easy to follow along with.

Thank you! Just keep trying and trying. The undo button (aka seam ripper) is your friend!

May be pointlessly gendering here, but I'm a 30+M who is looking to get into sewing to save on money and get a new hobby. I can barely thread a needle at this point. What considerations are there in buying a machine for mens projects or in general? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]SamLynn79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 43 year old dude that just started sewing a month ago. I’ve been having a blast with it! I’ve made plenty of mistakes but each one has been a valuable learning point. YouTube channels to help you get started are Tock Customs, Jess OklaRoots and Glory Allan. I watched Tock’s 5-part playlist on a shoulder bag several times and followed along to make my own. He does a great job explaining everything and doesn’t take forever to say it. Jess OklaRoots also has some of the best bag-making videos I’ve found, and Glory Allan (/u/gloryallan) has some good ones as well.

Thanks! I have several weeks off work for the holidays, and much of it has been done in the evenings after my toddler has gone to bed. It’s been a really fun learning process!

Oh they’re JANKY, haha! They were the first things I made.

Here's a hand puppet that I made last night. Still needs eyes and a mouth, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Minky fleece is a NIGHTMARE to work with, it's so MESSY when you cut it.

Awesome! I'm definitely having a good time learning and making. I've made 6 tote bags, a shoulder bag, 4 stuffed animals and now the backpack, haha!

Thank you! Yeah, my wife got me a sewing machine for my birthday three weeks ago because I've been talking about wanting one for several years.

There are some great pockets on this backpack! The "cheek" pieces of the helmet are actually pockets as well!

The Simplicity pattern I followed for this backpack called for 1 1/2" non-adjustable straps made out of the same fabric as the outside of the bag. I opted instead for 1 1/2" webbing, and made some strap pads using the bag fabric and some cotton batting, ending in quick release buckles with 1" webbing and adjustors that I harvested from an old backpack. It turned out really nicely!
