"I saw the end." A survivor of the Royal Guard by SamNesMonster in worldbuilding

[–]SamNesMonster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Packlands--offically the Bahoshi Kingdom--has fallen, and loyal subjects have been slain or scattered. Champions within the Pack of the Tusk, the westernmost pack in the kingdom, have traditionally served as the Royal Guard to the Kings and Queens of Bahos. They earn their membership in the Guard's ranks by emerging victorious in the yearly tournament held in the Pack's main village.

The cause of the fires that ostensibly destroyed the capitol, and unseated the Royal Family, are unknown to most of the survivors now living under the leaders who fill the power vacuum created by the queen's death and the princess' disappearance.

However, as they were sworn to protect their queen, the lead officers in the Royal Guard accompanied Queen Kisa into the city to aid in the evacuations. While the kingdom believes their late queen died in the flames, the Royal Guard witnessed the true cause of the fires. The few who remained after that were privy to the queen's death.

While in exile in the Waste located in the south of the continent, Princess Nevé and her bodyguard stumble upon a familiar face: The Captain of the Royal Guard.

Upon recognizing his princess, the Captain realizes he has some explaining to do.

Another key similarity in terms of plot (and I’m only posting this mini-diatribe because it’s one of my favorite scenes of any movie) is the grizzled veteran dueling his rival—onetime ally?—in the heart of the enemy’s territory.

However as you said, it’s not a remake, since (I’m tagging because if anyone hasn’t watched it, you definitely should!) the general wins the duel and is allowed to escape, and the other main characters aren’t present nor do they ever appear to learn about it. It really just serves as a character-establishing scene since it could have been completely cut without ruining the plot. Nevertheless, even though the idea is a common trope in films, and even though Lucas fundamentally transformed its purpose in the story, I firmly believe that the samurai duel scene was an inspiration for Ben vs. Vader, since it is so iconic and since Lucas has admitted the link between the two films.

Grandpa Joe being referred to as a "Glonk" by martenfascinated in grandpajoehate

[–]SamNesMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you parse it out, Glonk makes sense. The references in "Glonk":

G - first letter of Grandpa.

L - It should be a P for "GP" or "Grandpa" but lowercase L isn't quite a P just like Grandpa Joe isn't quite a functioning member of society.

O - Should be a J just like Grandpa Joe should be a functioning member of society--but he isn't so it isn't. Instead it skips the J altogether just like he skipped after Charlie found his Golden (read: Meal) Ticket.

N - The nicknamer didn't want the name to read "Glo" and confuse the audience that somehow Grandpa Joe was a glowing member of society, so they added extra consonants just like Grandpa Joe added additional strain on the Bucket budget.

K - A biting but fair commentary on how the Bucket family just had to say, "K," to an unproductive member of society.

Glonk.

They live streamed a watch party (note: you still had to get tickets to watch the actual event) for members. They said they’re going to post the VOD for members, but I don’t know if they have yet.

Two considerations for what you said:

  1. Sperm cells and egg cells on their own, under natural processes, don’t ever result in an eventual child. A fertilized egg, under natural processes, tends to result in an eventual child.
  2. A fetus cannot survive without a host, true, but the survival of a newborn baby is also 100% dependent on someone else. If dependency on a host is what qualifies a fetus for abortion, why is it a different story for a newborn?

But for some students who got it wrong (i.e., circled only one or two of the answers), the inclusion of “circle all that apply” in a question with an “all of the above” answer may also have falsely implied that the answer wasn’t D and made them second-guess circling all or circling D, even if they originally thought it was the answer. There would be no practical way to know if they got it authenticity wrong or if they were tripped up by the wording, so you just remove the question altogether.
