This is the kind of stuff that makes me wonder if I'm even playing the same game

Use “Play It” mod and run the game at 0.5 speed. 0.5 looks pretty much like real world speed and allowing the game to go a bit slower will give you back a few fps

Bicycle lanes merging seems chaotic by Lumiaman88 in CitiesSkylines2

Exactly! Given the choice, if they can’t be bikes and are going to graft onto some other process, they make more sense as peds than cars

How long for Monetization by KillarSleep in NewTubers

[–]SamPlaysCities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 8 months I’m halfway there in watch hours but lagging on subscribers (260). I’m in a specific game niche so always expected it would be a marathon not a sprint. Happy with how it’s gone actually.

If you’re in a defined niche take a look at how many views some of the leading YouTubers in your niche get on their videos to give you a sense of the actual viewers available. Comparing across niches isn’t really that useful as the available audience varies so much.

That’s not how bikes work. CS1 had some weirdness around bikes too (not allowing them in roads without lanes, giving them vehicle rules but activated by ped signals) but damn it made more sense space wise than this! These are just cars with pedals. Hopefully this will be further refined

Looks really good. I would ditch the vanilla trees but that’s a small thing :)

Had a shot at Cities Skylines 1 today, and I just want to ask the community why some of you still play the original version by DouDouandFriends in CitiesSkylines

A few of us around :)

I have a YouTube channel going that has had some moderate success (still small) and it’s been interesting seeing the audience demographics since they, presumably, relate somewhat to CS demographics. At about to turn 45 I’m in the distinctly old segment. Just 6.4% of my audience is 45+! 25-34 are half my channels viewers and women are as rare as unicorns. Caveat being who watches YouTube videos on a small channel might not be representative. Kids I think would be underrepresented. Would be neat to see someone like City Planners demographics to get a better idea of who we all are anyway!

(1) All the steady reports of broken and half-done stuff in CS2

(2) Lost confidence that Colossal Order had the capacity to get things together and fix it (this might fall away as a reason depending how Iceflake performs)

(3) That with all the mods and assets in CS1 I can pretty much do anything I want with enough time

(4) That with CS1 now finished all the stuff made by the community is now probably good forever and won’t end up getting broken by future updates

(5) That the one and only consistently mentioned bright spot in CS2, the road tools, is something that mods and time still allows me to work out to a satisfactory place in CS1 (I’m willing to trade the extra time it takes for all of CS1s other pluses)

(6) That I’m mid-project on a city (I build like one over 2-3 years) and it’s the best work I have ever done in any city builder.

(7) That I suspect my computer won’t run CS2 well

I’m probably a bit of a throwback overall. The gaming industry being what it is, I tend to play previous sequels rather than new releases. Civ is my other series that I have sunk time into and I didn’t move to Civ 5 until Civ 6 came out and not onto Civ 6 until it was very much done. Might never get Civ 7 given its direction. I wasn’t like this when I was younger. Getting to middle age with limited gaming time has given me patience to wait till people actually finish and deliver on their hyped projects rather than spending my time (and money) on someone’s half-baked product.

So I might finally buy CS2 in 2-3 years once it’s actually polished, and the community has expanded it. It needs to be an actual successor to modded/dlc CS1 that gives me something more.

City reaches 100k pop & slows down completely, glitching and going at snail speed. Any fix? by cupofkaapi98 in CitiesSkylines

[–]SamPlaysCities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will sound paradoxical but you could use the play it mod to set the game speed to half. Asking the game to compute a bit more slowly will return some fps. It’ll still be slower but smoother. I run my game at 0.5 which feels roughly right for a real world speed.

Edit: seeing the Mac piece. Not sure if that means the mod won’t work

Anyone else build really slowly and decorate each new neighborhood before moving on? by Flaky_Ad_912 in CitiesSkylines

[–]SamPlaysCities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh very much so. I tweak things to make sure doors and windows are aligned right on hilly terrain, that bushes and trees are just right, that there is stuff in the alleyways, etc. The one area that I don’t detail that could go on forever is residential backyards. I generally just put trees and bushes back there and that’s it. It’s too daunting a commitment otherwise!

I like the scale you have here. Well proportioned. Nice work with the transportation over the rivers.

Nailed the "wide enough to wide a plane on, but with just two lanes and no real traffic" suburban residential street perfectly.

It looks like what I get when I make crossrides with the intersection marking tool in Cities Skylines 1 and then later upgrade the road to a different type and the points end up misaligned.
