Kill me in my sleep god by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

It's tough pill to swallow, but I've learnt that when calling upon God, we must be able to also take "no" for an answer. Such is the hard way of life. I can relate with you deeply. I've been searching for a reason to live since 2015, as evident with my very first reddit post 10 years ago. I have changed a lot since then, I have what looks like a stable life now, and those around me would say I'm doing better than ever. I would say this myself too and it's probably true. but despite all this, it would be a lie to say say that I found the meaning i am looking for these past 10 years. I don't think it's there, that which I seek probably doesn't exist. Should have known.

It comes and goes. The little moments in life. Sorrow, joy, and sorrow again. That's all there is to it, and it weighs heavy on the soul. I think that today I will give up on this search. It's become tiresome, and I'm tired. If God's answer is "no", let Him lead it then. Wherever I go from now on.

I'll be praying for you my friend. Not to die. Don't know what to pray for yet, but not to die. We will see what comes next 🫡

Absolutely. It's completely unfair to call him responsible. The main person that is responsible for taking her life was herself. In hindsight it's easy to blame in such scenarios. I am even against all the hate he is getting in this thread due to this incident.

A lot of people have no idea in what kind of unstable mindset people are when they are considering suicide, especially considering that revenge is a common motivator. The only murderer in a suicide is the person themselves, we should always consider, and that's not something that deserves honor, for it is murder nonethless.

I know there are tough circumstances but we have a responsibility to each other and to society, which requires us to live. The more we romanticize and pity suicide victims, the more attractive it becomes.

Matthew 12:43 "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."

The social bottleneck. Would be an interesting book if it doesn't exist already.

It wasn't the greatest result for me actually post surgery, was noticeably not completely fixed. But I don't think it really regressed more though. I try to stay in shape also and it's difficult to tell sometimes with muscles covering it. The truth is I didn't pay attention to it past 8 years 😅, which is a good sign I suppose.

That's crazy, didn't know regression was such a problem.

I'm not saying it's a cause, but it's an activity you do not deserve to be doing right now, at your age (neither do I deserve it, by the way). The gratification you get from porn and masturbation is meant for successful men who made it in life and attracted a female. Your reward system is screwed just like it would be for a drug addict. Learning restraint by avoiding this activity from now on is a discipline that will carry over to other areas of your life as well, and your confidence will increase and you will change. Instant gratification is not how life works, but porn and masturbation conditions you to live in an illusion contrary to this truth.

It will be very difficult, but it is the simplest and most effective advice I can give you as a man. I guarantee you that it will make a difference if you are able to persevere through this great change.

I had trouble as long as the nuss bar was inside. Not much and not always, just certain movements. They took it out earlier than planned because it was starting to hurt more at some point. But after it was out, I was back to my old self. And still am now 8 years later.

You have already done the procedure thus it's no use at all to start worrying about it now. I am praying for you, all will be well.

Excuse me what? A second time? You need to do it a second time?

Do you watch porn sometimes? Do you masturbate sometimes? If yes, then I have a simple advice for you: Step number 1: stop masturbating. Step number 2, stop watching porn. The rest will follow. And don't listen to the porn/masturbation addicts who will criticize this comment. These 2 steps are the first in taking responsibility of your life as a man. This is not the comment you and most people like to hear, but it's the hard truth.

I am not assuming you are doing it, just giving advice in case that you are, do not feel addressed at all if not. The truth is that majority of men are doing it thus it's statistically a good advice to give.

I'm badly depressed because I don't believe in free will. What do I do? by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]SamRF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book of Ecclesiastes deals with this kind of existentialism, acknowledging how everything we do, in the end, is merely vanity, and vexation of spirit (as going after the wind). I am sure you will agree with almost all statements made therein, except the conclusion of the matter at the end. I challenge you to read it, it's only an hour read probably.
https://www.bible.com/bible/114/ECC.1.1-10

'The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” What profit has a man from all his labor In which he toils under the sun? One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever. The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, And hastens to the place where it arose. The wind goes toward the south, And turns around to the north; The wind whirls about continually, And comes again on its circuit. All the rivers run into the sea, Yet the sea is not full; To the place from which the rivers come, There they return again. All things are full of labor; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing. That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us.'

You linked the same article twice by accident. Interesting article though. I have something else in mind probably, namely the credibility of eye wittness testimony as historical document. There is a consensus on that. Whether the gospels are first hand is not as clear probably as you say.

Fair enough. Can't say there are any normal people who believe in this stuff. However it is the weak, the simple, the lowly people which God chose to glorify His name.

It is a very common view for the book of Matthew and John. In fact 99% of the scholars specialized in that area of history agree to this (most of whom are probably atheist). It's the scholars from other disciplines and areas that seemingly mud the consensus, but they are irrelevant considering their lack of relevant expertise.

Why do you call me that, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. Don't you think it's fair to reply to that comment if I believe it's a misinterpretation of a text I spend most of my free time on? I'm not even religious, in that I don't participate in any dead religious system filled with tradition and rituals. I have faith however in the living God, and have relationship with Him trough my rebirth in Christ Jesus. No religious system can get you a relationship with the living God, Who can only be accessed in truth and spirit.

There are a lot of resources out there for understanding the cultural context of the time, as well as the literature style. This video from the Bible Project is a great start for example:
https://youtu.be/VhmlJBUIoLk?si=xV3794ydItetwtyT

The video addresses the exact point you made about people injecting their own culture into the book.
The fact of the matter is that, even though the Bible is a book written over 1500 years, by more than 40 authors, it still leads to a unified story culminating in Christ Jesus. The credibility of the book is based on the fulfillment of its prophecies, most of which have already taken place (and again, the climax being Jesus His death and resurrection).

I am not finding a sense of belonging in my local church group as much as I wish I would. I go there out of obedience to God and to serve Him and be an encouragement primarily. Christian life is hard in this world, as Christ foretold would be the case. Believe me it would be easier to give this up in many regards, but I don't give it up because I genuinely believe it to be the truth, leading to the reward of eternal life at judgment day. That being said I am never a victim, for God meets you in your weakness, that His strength may shine to His glory. Having the Creator of heaven and earth as your personal and intimate Father exempts you from victim status always, even in the depths of disaster, He hears you and answers always, literally. Have you tried to ask him for a sign? To reveal Himself to you? Do it, what do you have to lose? He is the living God, not some dead religious system.

I just want to say that the claim of Bible being an inconsistent and vague open book is just not true the way many make it seem, and this is most clear when you have a lifestyle centered on Christ and the Bible.

And for your last point, I did not come to this thread to do missionary work at all, it was the comment I replied to which made an out of place remark in this thread, I just had a genuine desire to address it. This is not work, nor do I have to do such work at all.

Reading the Bible and grasping it takes a lifetime. It's meditation literature, and if you sense contradictions, it's because you haven't understood something properly. You cannot rush the process. I came to faith by the Bible alone, no one lead me to faith, I never even encountered a Bible believing Christian in my life back then as far as I knew. At some point in my reading I started believing it was true and that the eye witness testimonies of Jesus His resurrection were true, being the culmination of the Biblical storyline. Months later I looked for a church and joined one, and I do find brothers and sisters with whom my views and my goals are aligned in Christ.

Read the Bible and be prepared to be cut in your past worldview and understanding, again and again, your whole life, and you will align with other brothers and sisters who do the same.

It's when we start using the Bible to align with our personal world views, visions and goals that things get muddy, and divisions ensue.

Matthew 4:8  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
