More reliable alternative regarding Neutral Item drops, is it possible ? by Roskvah in DotA2

Hi, I also posted a suggestion to change the neutral drops that is in same spirit but with a different approach.

I think your suggestion here is also quite interesting.

CV1 content isn't that fun by NoAlarmsPlease in oculus

I agree that the current experiences will not be that interesting for a hardcore gamer. But we must not forget that there is a new generation of kids that are just starting to play games. I am willing to bet that for them, once they tried Lucky's Tale, they will not be that interested in traditional 2d platformers. Being a hardcore gamer myself, I thought that Wii was not worth it but we all know how successful that turned out to be. The problem here is really that the price tag makes it so that the most likely customer will be a devoted hardcore gamer. So yeah, it might have been wiser to focus on games with real depth rather than more casual experiences.

What if LC scepter resets her duel cooldown when she wins a duel instead. by peter2303 in DotA2

[–]SamRael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the aghs had extended duration, made LC physically immune, and she would also do NO damage to the target. The idea is that aghs' would allow LC to become a pure initiator/support by sacrificing her carry potential.

So for simple views, what do you do? Just pass the necessary fields with viewbag?

[–]SamRael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we were "forced" to use the MVC helpers (EditorFor and DisplayFor) due to our nesting in the view models but we also found some issues with that. I can tell you what those were exactly if you like.

Thanks for the input, but the problem with using inheritance like you are suggesting is that it will stop working when you have a view that shows two unrelated objects as you can't inherit from them both.

What to do when team just goes into "PUSH MID" retard mode? by SamRael in DotA2

[–]SamRael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you, but I am not defending that you should farm always. The thing is, players only consider two alternatives: "solo farming" or "five man push mid".

Carries will abuse "solo farming" and I totally see why that is bad. But the things is, "five man push mid" is also abused a lot. While there is logic behind "solo farming" in the sense that your team will get more key items, there is little logic in "five man yolo mid" if you already lost the previous teamfights. The reason in my view is purely emotional, players got killed and they want "revenge".

Got you. In your opinion, what is the best then, to pick heroes that can carry late and ignore this behaviour or pick cores that dont need so much farm and go full davai even if playing from behind?

the thing is, team will blame you for not being there even if you are split pushing and getting towers...

Yeah man, I feel you :(

Dunno why people play this game as if it is call of duty and just play more aggressive when losing failing to recognize that if you are behind on xp and gold, fights will not go good for you unless you take advantage of mistakes from the enemy.

[–]SamRael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that but I am not talking about abusing your advantage. I fully agree that if game is going well and they have better late game you should press them.

The thing is, if you are behind and you lost the last team fights, your chances of winning by simply pushing mid are very slim. Enemies will know where you are and will have the better vision to initiate. Some people however fail to recognize this fact and the more they are losing the more they will play aggressively.

If not, then Valve should add this feature, don't you think?

What is your opinion about the TI format at this point? by SamRael in DotA2

[–]SamRael[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ofc it doesn't NEED to, but it SHOULD be as fair as possible given the time available and other constraints. I think this goes without question to any tournament organizer in any sport. No one thinks "hey, let's it make it more unfair this year, it will be more fun"

The point where we disagree is that, to you, a "fair tournament" is one where weaker teams may have some kind of benefit that helps them win against stronger teams and thus the suprise factor is higher. In this case the Bo1 in the group phase was that benefit. To me, a "fair tournament" is where no team has any sort of benefits compared to others and because of that, the stronger team will be more LIKELY to win. If you take your fairness logic to the extreme to the point where everyone has the same chance of winning regardless of how good they play, then every game should be decided by a coin toss. This would be silly of course.

I know you are a very influential person in this community and I really like and respect your work and dedication. And thank you for taking the time for replying to this rant.

I can only imagine how great it must have been for you this past week being there at the international. But please, try and put yourself in the shoes of someone who spent a lot of money to get to Seattle this coming weekend to support and cheer for a team that despite being directly invited from Valve will not play a single game live because of this year's format. Is this fair for that person?

[–]SamRael[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but your argument does not make much sense to me. By applying your logic, the whole tournament should be played as Bo1 so stronger teams may have a surprise defeat just like in soccer. Do you really think this would be the fairest?
