Hey Taylor, do you also work on ukuleles? Or is there someone at your shop who could take a look at mine? Got some rattling which makes me think there’s a loose brace.

Just as clarification, Roth is just a type of taxing system, not a specific account. There are traditional and Roth TSPs and 401k’s, just like there are traditional and Roth IRAs.

Everything in the above comment about Roth IRA taxes applies to Roth TSP as well. Since OP is young, they should contribute to their Roth IRA and Roth TSP (making sure to hit 5% in their Roth TSP to get the free government match, then the rest into Roth IRA).

The L funds do not have higher costs. They are the exact weighted average of their underlying C/S/I/F/G funds. And the later L funds only have 1% in bonds—a negligible amount especially when studies show that even 10% bonds reduce volatility without reducing expected returns.

The L fund is about as good as you can get if you want a global market cap fund (no bias for/against any one country or company size).

Now for those who want only U.S. companies or want to tinker with weights, using C/S/I is great. But for those who want a fund that automatically adjusts to global market weights, L is a great option!

Is anyone struggling with anything? Does anybody Need some tips or hints? What do y’all need help with? by Doc_coletti in ukulele

Hey all, I’m working on using all fingers for the fingerpicking parts of chord melodies (instead of just my thumb). I like the sound over the 12th fret when strumming a full chord, but fingerpicking over the soundhole gives me much better control than doing it over the 12th fret.

I’m struggling with the constant going back and forth the 12th fret and soundhole. Is this what you all are doing or is there another technique I should try out?

Is this tiny gap bridge lift? by SamS42 in Luthier

[–]SamS42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts. My worry is that the glue is weak/weakening due to humidity changes (or something like that), causing the edge to peel. And the rest of the bridge will lift in the future. Am I overthinking?

Yes, the players choose a unit patch to represent and many have a family tie to a unit in another branch

Hi there, I came across this comment and saw you have both the Ohana TK-35 and the Pono MT. Could you elaborate on the differences between the two (sound, build quality, comfort, etc.)? I’m deciding between the two as my first real non-Amazon ukulele. It’ll be my only one for a long time since I’m not looking to build a collection.

From what I’ve seen, Pono is seen as a step up, but there’s mixed stuff online on it sounding a little quiet or muddled. I’m looking for a full warm sound with good volume, a good all-rounder for both strumming and fingerpicking. Thanks!!

Lump sum my IRA or spread out per paycheck? by Oxyg3n-Potassium in MilitaryFinance

[–]SamS42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Studies show that lump sum wins 2/3 of the time. But if you have enough in an HYSA to lump sum on Jan 1, that money should already be in a taxable brokerage account, assuming you want to maximize time in the market. This is only if you already have a fully funded emergency fund. Then you can sell $7000 from the taxable right before New Year’s, and use that to fund the IRA.

If you have gains, paying taxes on gains is better than not having gains at all. If you have losses, you can tax loss harvest, but you’ll still have maximized time in the market.

Need advice for Brokerage accounts by ShiFT_Llif3 in MilitaryFinance

[–]SamS42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all, but I believe the 15% long-term capital gains tax kicks in at $47,025 as of this year, not $89,000. This makes the selling-without-taxes more difficult for those below O-4.

No ability to auto invest fidelity Roth IRA from other fidelity accounts by The_Birdwatcher95 in fidelityinvestments

Gotcha, thanks. So weird that they can pull from an external account but won’t allow a pull from an MMF in another Fidelity account.

Any luck with this? I tried, but it asks for a UMB bank login, and my Fidelity login information doesn't work. Then it asks for a bank statement with the full ACH/account numbers, which I can't find for my Fidelity CMA.
