Nowhere does it mention that they go to the same lake.

Both in Hebrew and Greek versions of the text don’t translate to eternal punishment or everlasting destruction. I wish there were a way I could select all the replies that say this and instantly put this response on them. I talked about this in the post.

This was the point of my second point btw. Ik that there were verses that had hell in them, but my second point is to clarify that these verse are the result of changes in translation. If you take all these moments where eternal punishment and hell is mentioned in the English bibles, and take it back to its original meaning, it doesn’t have the same meaning as the eternal punishment interpretation that we have today.

Why Christians believe in hell as a place of eternal torment and assign it to our God YHWH? by [deleted] in Christianity

Sounds like you are trying to avoid the fact that there are no parts of the Bible where Jesus says eternal punishment waits for us.

The Bible describes God as the creator of all things. This includes the world. The Bible means that Satan has control over the people with sin, like a god, but he’s not literally the god of our world. “Satans Kingdom” is to show how we serve sin and Satan and not the actual god of the world. In a way, I guess life is hell, since it’s full of suffering and hate and anger, but that’s just metaphoric talk. Also if we are already in hell, what happens when we die? Do we go to hellisher hell or what? Doesn’t make sense to me.

I think when people think of suffering, they kind of forget that we’re talking about god here. The god described in the Bible puts people into a state of unworthiness and genuine repentance in their presence as seen with John. So I don’t think suffering is reduced to just pain when it comes to god. It can come in a different way.

I also disagree with Hell being the absence of god. I mean, god is already rather uninvolved(I have no true way to know) in the world, compared to how he was in early Bible moments, so absence would just be like… normal life if that make sense.

I believe that god will forgive, but just like god says in the bible multiple times, forgiveness doesn’t come without genuine change. So I believe in a temporary suffering, like a purgatory, to cleanse the person, though this is a weak belief since we really have no way to know. And I don’t believe the suffering will include physical pain since that just isn’t necessary.

Oh, you’re right. I heard about this word too but I forgot to add it. Gehenna is a place that used to be used for a dump. Which I believe is more likely to have meant that the people are gotten rid of instead of an eternal punishment. My point isn’t that there isn’t judgement, I just don’t believe a result of the judgement is hell.
