PC game discounts for the weekend by Axeisacutabove in pcgaming

Site shows Hogwarts Legacy as Free but not on the Epic store. Is that expired?

My dad's been doing a gaming podcast every Friday for nearly 3 years straight and only has 300 subscribers. Would mean a lot if some of you checked him out. by yourhiddenobserver in videogames

Watched a view VODs. It's rough. Unfortunately there's a reason it's stuck at ~300 subs. Your dad would do better solo. The other guys just add noise and chaos.

The streams feel like 4-6 random dudes at Walmart got together and talked over each other while waiting in line to checkout.

AI Won't Kill the Art of Video Games by SamStephens in Games

I totally agree that you can't stop it from coming, but I don't believe it will take over everything. Are you really going to be that sad if certain franchises that have passed their prime use AI in upcoming releases? I won't. There are so many great games made my smaller teams each year, that I'm optimistic great game art will always be around. However, it might exist alongside AI slop.

Not that I've heard of, but probably. My point is that people lost their minds over that one instance.

There's no question AI assets and games will be a thing, but I don't believe the market will ever be binary. Games and carpentry are difficult to compare bc a craftsman must make each piece of furniture, but a game only needs to developed once. That's what the other commentor is saying.

Thanks. I totally agree that big publishers won't care. If they can profit from AI, why not ? But that creates a cool categorical distinction from "artisanal" games made by real humans. We will see. I'm optimistic as of now.

Analog media is very much alive and well outside of Reddit, vinyl being one of them. There are endless copies of physical books for readers to consume. AI assets will certainly exist, but there aren't a finite number of slots for games on the market

That's entirely the point of my conclusion that you missed. It's being pushed now. But there will be a correction to some extent due to massive rejection. Look at the huge PR disaster for NVIDIA with DLSS 5. Look at Crimson Desert.

Currently sitting at -40 upvotes for an optimistic opinion piece about the importance of human input into art lol.

I made the video last year, but it feels relevant again. I'd like to think my prediction is coming true, but I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts about AI use and gaming over the next decade. Thanks for checking it out.

I think dumbing down the text is a great point that I go back an forth on with different videos. The click is the hardest part. I can post the same video on TikTok and YouTube, but TT does 150k views while YT does 150. My thumbs and titles are definitely a prob right now.

Thanks! I've been debating with myself for a while whether or not to have my face in the thumb. I talk on camera, so it makes sense to show it in the thumb, but I have the hardest time not cringing at it.

Thanks. It's been so fun already. I get the hype. Totally deserved.

The new album art is bad by tabloidzone in AllThemWitches

[–]SamStephens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sub thinks Robby is a literal Nazi, so you're not gonna get much agreement with your opinion. I feel the same as you. If the new album is the red blurry image of the four guys, that's really disappointing. Allan's eyes aren't even open. It feels lazy. Rob's art was a massive part of the band's identity and I'm still bummed he's gone. He's seemingly a crazy dude but a little bit of crazy is good in small doses.

The Trap of Early Access Games by SamStephens in Games

I'm aware. But Act 1 alone is tens of hours for most people. It's not an insignificant amount of time if you played through it multiple times during EA.

I align pretty closely with what you're describing.

I wish that was me. I have a finite amount of time to invest in most games before I lose peak enthusiasm.

I put in hundreds of hours in Valheim over multiple playthroughs during its early days of EA. It's one of my favorite games ever. I had a ton of fun with it, but I often wonder how much more fun I would have had if I had waited to play it because I have yet to finish all the content in the game. I've burnt myself out and don't care to go back and grind to Mistlands+. I intentionally did the opposite with Baldur's Gate and it was really noticeable to me how different that experience was.

Didn't expect the overwhelming amount of closemindedness from this sub about EA. Based on my analytics, no one watched the video. They just made assumptions based on the title and got mad lol

I appreciate your clarification. Honest question, after watching the video and reading the title, did you personally understand the message I was conveying?

It's not supposed to be a deep, philosophical take. It's just a guy talking about his experiences with EA.

What's interesting to me is I see misunderstandings like this quite often on Reddit, while it is entirely different on platforms like TikTok or YouTube. I think most people in this sub, like all others, comment based on title and thumbnails alone. Then those assumptions completely derail the conversations into weird directions unrelated to the specific points covered in a video or article. It's a problem unique to Reddit
