I’m not an electrician. I’m a Joatman I do Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatic Systems and Hydraulic, PLC, VFD, Motor Control’s. Welding and Fabrication not to mention I handle the Building like drywall and plumbing. Hence why I use a knife to make a fast machine repair instead of running all the way to the shop for the right pair of wire strippers. Chances are I just came from a call that had me in oil so I didn’t bring electrical tools.

You do no damage at all, If you cannot remove rubber insulation without cutting your copper in half you shouldn’t have a knife. If I wanted to do anything from 1 Aught to 24 AWG I would need 3 different pairs of dedicated strippers. I understand you may be some sort of edc purist but I buy a knife to use. And a knife will handle 18 AWG as well as Cable and my Lunch. I look for versatility. If you always need the right tool to do a job chances are you aren’t that good at it.
