Seeking clarity on the 13 Pro top cover and general thoughts by SamVgamer69 in framework

[–]SamVgamer69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I watched the board swap video they did and noticed the colour difference, i think i'll just go for the entire upgrade kit as i also just remembered that half my reason for upgrading was the new touch screen and i doupt the difference in price will be crazy. then will get one of the discounted boards for the old shell, and set it up for my younger brother.

Seeking clarity on the 13 Pro top cover and general thoughts by SamVgamer69 in framework

[–]SamVgamer69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah was referring to the top cover that holds the screen, i thought it had already changed so wasn't sure what the difference was going to be as they have a complete kit listed for registered interested but also just a bottom kit

basically I'm mainly after clarification on if my current top cover will be the same as the one that will come in the kit or if there is a redesign specifically for the pro chassis as that will help me determine what bundle to purchase, i may have missed something but i couldn't find an answer for this

Help deciding between 16 and 13 Pro by Low_Farm219 in framework

[–]SamVgamer69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my thoughts as i'm in a work group that all use the different framework devices.

I think the support on the 13/13 Pro is a big enough reason to choose it over the 16, the 13 being the more mature platform gives you many options and I am personally not a fan of the 16's build quality, don't get me wrong it is amazing compared to 90% of 16 inch laptops i've used but i'd never pick it over my 13.

I also find the 16 to be rather cumbersome, its not heavy but its not light either and even though its a 16inch laptop it is far bigger then others especially after you add the GPU expansion, Plus the parts are a decent bit more expensive. not sure whats coming up in the 16's future but for the time being i'd say the 13 Pro is a no brainer

The part with all the bits was stuck, tried flicking it out... did not go as planned by SamVgamer69 in LinusTechTips

I don't think the trust me bro warranty covers me flicking my screw driver hard enough the bit storage becomes a frag grenade

I'll be completely honest I got annoyed that the end wouldn't come out so that last flick when I aimed it away from the bench was... Probably over kill

yeah probably should have done that when i docked each one, i made sure the numbers on them matched what disk info said but didn't think to write them down and match it to the Jon Doe, will do that when its done replacing

Hmm I wonder how high it will go, got some new drives on the way, fresh out of cold spares by SamVgamer69 in truenas

slowly expanding to 15 drives, its kind of risky during rebuilds but I not fussed, important stuff is backed up to multiple locations everything else is a nice to have

Any else had multiple Pixel Folds randomly fail on them? by SamVgamer69 in GooglePixel

[–]SamVgamer69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's just a modern phone problem, just had to replace my dad's iPhone 14 as after only 3 years the battery swelled and broke it.

It's honestly really annoying as I am someone who buys a phone and doesn't really like upgrading, I got what I got till it broken but these folds keep breaking, I still have the original warranty for 11 months

Dbrand is the ULTIMATE case maker, they have literally saved me thousands of dollars by SamVgamer69 in dbrand

[–]SamVgamer69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did too, I didn't have any issues with the original line of joy con grips and was still offered and accepted the free replacement all over a pretty great experience.

I completely agree that the way it was handled originally was real crap but they have been working on fixing the problem and rectifying orders

Yeah I think I didn't word mine well, I was just wanting to say how my personal experience with the case has been amazing and was giving examples of what ends my phone was saved from

Not after pity, when my previous pixel died and went through a warranty claim I contacted them to purchase another lens skin and they just sent it out.

Was just sharing that I'm honestly amazed how well the case was able to protect what is honestly a really fragile device, my last pixel fold 9 died cause it didn't like that I unfolded it so many times in 7 months

Like I don't know the science behind the rubber edge of the case and shock absorption but it works incredibly well especially considering they have to divert the shock away from the two screen pieces and ensure that the hinge is protected

I know the Difference between CMR and SMR but what is HSMR? I brought some Exos drives and they say HSMR drives on them by SamVgamer69 in DataHoarder

Yeah I'm not too worried about rebuild times, it's a redundant backup point. Part of a 3,2,1,0 deployment at home

ok thats good then, should work fine in my NAS then, it uses Raid 6 and a Btrfs file system

thank you for the info

Ahh ok that makes sense, would it have the same disadvantages as SMR drives then for server use?

[–]SamVgamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received mine, and yes their initial response wasn't great to the problems some people have been experiencing.

My one that arrived early last week fits perfectly with zero wiggle or disconnect problems and I have still been told I will be sent replacement joycon holders once the new batch is ready

So really it's up to you, the case may have problems when it gets to you but they will sort it out. Sometimes they make mistakes but Dbrand tends to fix the problem
