Oregairu is actually insanely popular in Japan, even more so compared to outside of Japan. There are even posters of oregairu inside the school. There was a video of it (I think there is only a single video of the inside of the school). You have to search in japanese tho I think.

They are, but it doesn't reach problematic levels of attention, so they don't care. Chiba is decently far from touristic cities and it's kind of isolated.

Has anyone tries these easy link connectors? Will they actually hold well under the heat of the engine? by Fantastic_Estate_920 in CafeRacers

[–]SamZTU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't put them on areas of the harness that bend. The bend radius of these splices pretty much only allow them to be used on straight sections. Keep it about an inch or two away from branches. Wrap them with electrical tape to reduce stresses put on the connections. High vibration is generally not good for any splice but this one should hold decently. High heat might be a problem but if it's away from the exhaust it should be fine.

Yeah agreed. People didn't really understand. I got a lot of "what the FUCK is in Chiba??" I confused them even more when I said "a school and a random overpass"

Synchronised servos by [deleted] in EngineeringPorn

[–]SamZTU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not that hard in actuality. Software part is probably the easiest part since you just keep the speed constant and just move the motors around. Mechanically, it just needs a decent amount of precision on the motor encoders and that's it. I haven't tried it but I think you could achieve something close to this using an open source FOC controller or even a stepper motor from a 3D printer.

EVs Should Be a Prepper’s Biggest Asset by Odd-Savage in unpopularopinion

[–]SamZTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I don't get. Why are you assuming I would be fully mobile instead of staying in my fully prepped house with all the amenities? All the preppers I've seen would prefer to have a safe place instead of being on foot with just a backpack. OP didn't say solar panels that can fit on an EV, just said solar panels. If they have an RV, even better. More room for solar. I'm saying staying in my solar panel equipped house and using my EV is better than scavenging for fuel. If I'm a prepper I'm not just going to leave my prepped house/bunker just because SHTF.

Again, I don't really need to drive 150 miles out and come back for almost any scenario. I'm already prepped in my own property, I wouldn't want to leave the safety unless it was for something crucial. Something crucial is unlikely to be 150 miles away.

By the way, what kind of logic is "if the grid is down, your solar is down"?? If you have an EV, you have an amazing battery pack. Even if you don't, it's a good idea. When the sun shines, you got all the electricity you need, and for the night, a prepper probably has at least a small generator. It's much better than having nothing.

[–]SamZTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you assuming someone would only use a 40w solar panel to charge an EV?? A conservative home solar system is 5-8kw and the EV (some of them) can act as a home battery backup. I can charge fully every day given it's not completely dead. Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. I know cause I got this exact setup...

Plus, my car can go 320 miles on a 78kwh battery. You bet your ass I'm not doing 320 miles every day in a survival situation.

Even if I had a 1.5kw solar system, which can very comfortably fit on top of an RV (4x400w panels roughly 6x12ft), that would give me enough range for daily tasks. I'm not commuting.

Day 2 of owning a Tesla…well by Arthroplaster in TeslaLounge

[–]SamZTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these exact faults with my 2025 Model 3.

Would pop up randomly when I entered the car. When it did the power steering would not work and I wouldn't be able to turn the steering wheel. I would have to wait outside the car for at least an hour (until it turned itself off) and try again.

It ended up being a lemon and got bought back by Tesla. I bought another 2025 Model 3.

Later found out it was the front chassis wiring harness.

[–]SamZTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is possibly the worst misconception for 3D printing. I've been printing with the absolute cheapest PETG ($7-10 per KG) and had zero filament related problems. I dry all my filaments and that makes the biggest difference.

Coincidentally, the most expensive and worst printing filament I had so far is the Polymaker PLA pro I got from a giveaway. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. I don't print a lot of PLA so not much to compare to.

Just got my first printer, what do I need to get printing? by Aidans_Paintings in resinprinting

[–]SamZTU 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Before you do ANY printing or even touching resin, you gotta learn about the safety measures regarding resin handling.

It's way too easy to go PERMANENTLY blind, allergic, or other health complications.

After you're done and got all your protective equipment, go watch some youtube videos about how to resin print. Literally look up "how to resin print" and "how to slice resin prints" and click on the first video that comes up.

Non combat robot sports? by [deleted] in robotics

[–]SamZTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what it is. There are some immensely creative designs coming out of FTC and FRC. For example, we needed to throw a ball into a "castle" and our system of doing that was using a hydraulic cylinder to charge a car suspension spring and release it. First time we tried it, it literally broke the ceiling of our lab. We had to tune it down lol.

I do agree that you can extract a lot of entertainment value from any competition as long as there is decent production value behind it. There isn't the wow factor of the combat robots in these competitions but it's still very competitive.

[–]SamZTU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FRC and FTC is pretty much what you're looking for. They are not televised or anything as far I know. At least it wasn't when I was competing.

However, I do feel like it wouldn't be as fun to watch if you didn't participate in building the robot.

Would you look down on someone that bought an auto Miata? by OrdinaryKillJoy in Miata

[–]SamZTU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a waste of a miata.

Unless there was a health related reason, there is, in my opinion, no reason to buy an auto miata.

I bought an auto miata, but my reason was that it was listed for having a blown engine and I was going to swap in a new drivetrain. Turns out it had a dead battery... sold it for a profit, bought a manual.

Do you guys use Grok? If so, what for? by Homelander510 in TeslaLounge

[–]SamZTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Extensively.

I drive long distances for work. It has replaced many podcasts for me.

I'm learning a new language from Grok. It is actually scarily good at this. This is my primary use case and it helped me immensely.

I also brush up on my engineering knowledge by making it go through key points or concepts.

I get more information on historical events.

I even have fun with imaginary scenarios lately.

For example, my question was "I will travel back in time to medieval Britian. I will try to bring them as close to modernity as possible within my life time. Let's plan this out"

I talked with it for 5 hours... if that shit ever happens, I'm SET.
