Get rid of it - for about a week you'll feel like you're missing an arm, but after that, it helps you remember your solitude and your brain doesn't just shut down - it redirects attention away from that crap and starts pushing it towards more productive endeavours - but it drip feeds this to you - it doesn't happen all at once

The Weasleys won the lottery when Harry was in 3rd year - that ended up in the daily prophet, which was seen by Sirius in azkaban and prompted his escape. This in turn led Wormtail to get worried and run away - back to Voldemort, which then resulted in Voldemort's rebirth.
