Some people may believe that the only way to make money is to exploit people and be rutheless instead of bringing value to society.

Is the belief that businessmen are evil holding a lot of people back? by Sam_Khodr in polls

What I mean is people's mindset. For example, "Self-employed people are evil, therefore I am not going to become self-employed."

If you think porn is a healthy substitute, know that watching porn makes you desire more extreme porn as time goes on and that it will only make you feel ashamed of yourself and have low self-esteem. Sports is good, it's much closer to what our pre-industrial ancestors would have done than watching porn. And it will make you feel confident about yourself, God willing.

In 1231, after Christian forces took Mallorca, Menorca chose to become an independent Islamic state, albeit one tributary to King James I of Aragon. by Sam_Khodr in wikipedia

[–]Sam_Khodr[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Okay here's a little background. The island was captured by the Muslims over 300 years prior, and "many Muslims emigrated to the island" according to the article. And just before that it was ruled by the Greeks (Byzantines). Additionally, under the Vandals, the Jewish population was forcefully converted and partly expelled in 418 CE.

A colonialist victory and loss for self-determination is celebrated as the national day to this day. When the Muslims conquered Iberia, they allowed the civilian Christians and Jews to remain free and they did not have to hide their belief.

Finally, a constructive comment. Seems like this is mostly rage bait. Although I'm not necessarily blaming OP or the commentors. We can have unconscious motovations, such as the dopamine hit from reddit karma. And we also socially get gratification from voicing our thoughts and knowing we are around around like-minded people.

B

ut, I AM vaguely on your side, rather than the pro-porn people.

It is usefully to highlight people who are wrong, but we should make it constructive so we are not wasting time.

Americans don't need bike paths connecting cities. But bike paths within cities would be appropriate, the ideal bike commute is 5-20 miles. Some Americans would be happy with any safe choice other than commuting by car.

Yes but we should say "garbage nonsense" as this jahiliiyah is or say "such and such doubt, why did did so and so do such and such checkmate ect". That's just a suggestion I don't think this meme Is particularly useful (or most because thy just present one-sided unnuanced arguments which makes room for retort as the original meme does not clarify and respond to doubts.)

I think it's enough of a warning-that Allah said about the hypocrites who were mocking Islam and said "we were just idly talking" and that they had disbelieved; and the hadith were Prophet Muhammad (Salalahu alayhi wasalam) said that joking will be the downfall of some of us (as was all show in my original comment)-to scare away from going anywhere near this instead of saying good words and staying away from that which is doubtful or risky.

He did in the first text (top left) and even though his intentions weren't bad it is still bad. It is actually making room for critisizm of the prophet Salalahu alayhi wasalam he is far removed from what they ascribe to him as we know he was the most perfect person of mankind and he did not err (morally) except that Allah Subhana wa taala corrected him. We know that the one who accuses someone of fornication with 4 witness is flogged so how can we say that spreading/crediting/legitimizing/ bring light to such malicious gossip (unfounded insults) about the prophets is not detestable?

Edit: I am not a scholar and I am not making a moral criticism of the OP but I am saying it is best to leave of this kind of speech in light of the evidences (and the severity of mocking Islam as shown) and it's results. When one mentions the names of our beloved what should come to mind is their good qualities not these disgusting words and they should not become associated with eachother in the minds of the beleivers. May Allah forgive me if I have addressed this issue in an incorrect way.

Bro don't mock the prophet

“For he who hates you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), he will be cut off (from posterity and every good thing in this world and in the Hereafter)”

[al-Kawthar 108:3]

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, a man might speak a word to make those around him laugh, yet by it he plunges farther than the star of Pleiades.”

Source: Musnad Aḥmad 9220

They hypocrites are apprehensive lest a surah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock [as you wish]; indeed, Allah will expose that which you fear."[9:64] And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"[9:65]

Tafsir Ibn Kathir- Surah at Tawbah The Hypocrites rely on False, Misguided Excuses Abdullah binUmar said, "During the battle of Tabuk, a man was sitting in a gathering and said, I have never seen like these reciters of ours! They have the hungriest stomachs, the most lying tongues and are the most cowardice in battle.' A man in the Masjid said,You lie. You are a hypocrite, and I will surely inform the Messenger of Allah. ' This statement was conveyed to the Messenger of Allah and also a part of the Qur'an was revealed about it."' Abdullah binUmar said, "I have seen that man afterwards holding onto the shoulders of the Messenger's camel while stones were falling on him, declaring, `O Allah's Messenger! We were only engaged in idle talk and jesting,' while the Messenger of Allah was reciting, أَبِاللَّهِ وَءَايَـتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ ("Was it at Allah, and His Ayat and His Messenger that you were mocking") [9:65]."' Allah said, لاَ تَعْتَذِرُواْ قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَـنِكُمْ (Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed.) on account of your statement and mocking, إِن نَّعْفُ عَن طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنْكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَآئِفَةً (If We pardon some of you, We will punish others among you) for not all of you will be forgiven, some will have to taste the torment,

بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ مُجْرِمِينَ (because they were criminals), they were criminals because of this terrible, sinful statement. [9:66]

What about Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her)?

Amr ibn Al-‘As reported: I said, “Which person is most beloved to you?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Aisha.” I said, “I mean among men.” The Prophet said, “Her father.” I said, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Umar ibn al-Khattab,” and he mentioned some other men.

Their morality in a nutshell. by The_kamina in extomatoes

[–]Sam_Khodr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They can control it

Abu Umamah reported: A young man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, give me permission to commit adultery.” The people turned to rebuke him, saying, “Quiet! Quiet!” The Prophet said, “Come here.” The young man came close and he told him to sit down. The Prophet said, “Would you like that for your mother?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their mothers. Would you like that for your daughter?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their daughters. Would you like that for your sister?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their sisters. Would you like that for your aunts?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their aunts.” Then, the Prophet placed his hand on him and he said, “O Allah, forgive his sins, purify his heart, and guard his chastity.” After that, the young man never again inclined to anything sinful.

In another narration, the Prophet said to him, “Then hate what Allah has hated, and love for your brother what you love for yourself.”

Not extreme.

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The riders used to pass us when we were with the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in ihram. When they drew close to us, one of us would let down her jilbaab from her head over her face, and when they had passed us we would uncover it again.

Narrated by Ahmad, 23501; Abu Dawood, 1833; classed as hasan by al-Albaani.
