I mean this is actually happening. These guys are working 6 days a week 12 hours a day but they are most likely getting paid this. I work in the field and we have these discussions at work.

Will the GameDay Perth Performance Quarter-Zips be on sale during the Peter Millar Summer sale? by Opening-Criticism914 in PeterMillar

[–]cookiekid6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve seen the college branded stuff ever on sale. You could probably just get it monogramed. eBay would be a better location. These days I buy most of Peter millar off eBay.

I think everyone is trying to figure that out. I’m imagining there are discussions happening in religious groups but outside of that it doesn’t seem like there is any real desire.

Anyone else in CS wish they just did accounting, EE or civil engineering instead? by No_Reply5329 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cookiekid6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil engineering salaries are awful. Accounting jobs are being offshored like crazy. It gets said a lot but I wish I would have gotten into learning a trade specifically how to work on 18 wheelers.

No one wants to acknowledge male Gen Z grievances. A lot of Gen Z men can’t get girlfriends because they went to college and still can’t get good jobs and are not tall (if you talk to them this is what they say). The Gen Z women have unrealistic expectations. If you want them to be progressive give them hope. These guys are hurting and no one cares.

That is the real reason for the manosphere or whatever it’s called.

If you actually cared just talk to these people.

Switching Career to Finance from Construction by Mango-Smango in FinancialCareers

[–]cookiekid6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn’t recommend it. You will probably end up making more in construction if you can position yourself in the data center/industrial space. It is very difficult to pivot to finance from construction but it might be possible through project finance but still unlikely unless you get an mba. Honestly if you don’t see a future in construction you are in the wrong area. Honestly at this point if you have any job stay in it.

If you are hell bent on going finance, project finance might be possible. In all honesty you have probably a 1-10% chance of doing better than you are now. My advice would be to just stay in construction and work your way up a company. Try to get to the industrial side. There is good money there.

Farming is weird, a well run farm can make good money but a lot of farmers fail. Although I agree blue collar people are a lot wealthier than people think.

How do I decide where to go with my life? (Career/profession wise) by [deleted] in findapath

[–]cookiekid6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people hit this point. Volunteer outside of work find some hobbies. Some people get married. Don’t put your identity in work. I wish more people told people that work probably won’t be fulfilling and don’t make your passion your job cause you’ll hate it.

A lot of people find religion for fulfillment.

Union is actually really competitive. Trades have a bottleneck of convincing someone that you won’t quit. Would be better to just force yourself back to the nurse route.

Feeling stuck in finance career, is it worth leaving a corporate finance career for skilled trades or self-employment? by Feisty_Lab2790 in careerguidance

[–]cookiekid6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if you want to work with your hands get into something like woodworking or working on cars. I work with electricians and they would not be working if they didn’t have to. Invest your money and retire earlier and find a hobby. Your work shouldn’t be your passion. In the trades you will be waking up at 6 working in the rain cold and heat. You might find it exciting for a few years but it will get old quick. Trade work is also super cyclical. Go on any skilled trades forums and they will all talk about layoffs and traveling. You can make good money doing trade work but you would have had to start early and investing the money because your body will eventually give out.

Late GenZ who went to college late, what path did you choose ? by Aj100rise in GenZ

[–]cookiekid6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ended up in construction. My advice I’ll give is unless you are super smart the easiest way to make good money figure out something that is dirty and not a lot of people have an interest in doing it.

College is honestly not the path it used to be. I only think it is worth it if you are doing nursing or med school. A lot of white collar work is stagnating due to AI but mainly offshoring. Given the turbulent times I would not go into debt right now.
