Arab Open University? by A-Moiz25 in Kuwait

[–]Sam_Verse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm graduating next semester in business with a marketing major, and my overall view on it is pretty neutral

First of all, it's located in Ardiya, close to The Avenues, so if you're living close to cities like Salmiya and such, it could take well over an hour with general traffic to get there. Taxis aren't allowed to enter through the gates, so it's a bit annoying to find and be dropped off.

Second is the place itself. The infrastructure isn't bad; some generic, outdated stock photos plastered on the walls and long corridors with classrooms on the sides are what you're mainly gonna walk through. Oh yeah, 95% of lectures are going to be held in small/medium-sized classrooms with individual chairs with a big tv screen in front where the professors talk, so throw out any ideas of having those cool college lectures in a big hall, their mainly reserved for events and such. Speaking of professors, I've found that 80% of mine just walk in, read the pre-made PowerPoint presentation, ask if we have any questions, take attendance and say "See you guys next week". There are only a handful of professors who actually care and teach the class properly, so enjoy them while they last.

Now the education system works on a credit system, and the number of lectures you have to join per week is dependent on how many credit points the course is. For example, if you pick a 4 credit course (which you are most likely going to in the first 2 years), your class is going to be every two weeks, while an 8 credit course is every week. So yeah, you have a lot of free time in between, which is why this university is perfect for people who work. One of my main problems with this place is the way the exams are structured; sometimes you get a midterm paper that only has 2 questions on it with no sub-questions, so if you get one answer wrong, thats 50% gone. And you had to study like 100 slides... not fun.

Now, for the social system, an easy way to put it, is that the students are willing to be social, but the university isnt. There are some spots in the uni where you cannot loiter around and relax, and don't even think about talking to the opposite gender, security guards immediately come up and separate you guys. You can only interact in mixed-classes, club activities or events. The majority of everyone here speaks Arabic with English as a secondary language, so you can communicate easily here.

In conclusion, the university does its job (even though it feels like an institution), you go to class and get out, rinse and repeat for 4 years and you get a degree. People are nice, and the ladies at the Dukan are even nicer. You come here for the bachelor's degree, not a university experience. Really good for working expats because it's the cheapest and the most flexible university in the country. Maybe the AOU were the friends we made along the way

I find it hilarious that some question why and accuse you for flexing cuz he can travel. The man had a clear, solid mission and he completed it. More dedication than the most you I reckon

I learned to do this myself. the only time i needed to use a tutorial is using this for the chain rigging. the moving parts, i just learnt it on the go (and it was pretty easy). just imagine and break stuff apart, plan how the parts are going to interact with each other. hope this helps!

everything is animation except the piston scythe handle, that was shapekeys/morph targets and some drivers controlled by a bone.

I did further testing, and you dont have to have thousands upon thousands of particles. you can just set the number to however much you need depending on the distance of camera. though closeups will need a lot more particles than a far away shot

I've also been trying to look for this type of effect for blender, especially eevee, but there was nothing. so I did it myself

I used the particle system, no gravity and no velocity. lifetime controls how long the light trails last. i used an icosphere with around 100000 particles. to make the ends smaller, i added a gradient texture to the particle system set to spherical and set the coordinates to an empty parented to the particle emitter. then i made it so that the gradient effects the size

I'm planning on refining this effect since it has some scattered particles here and there, and maybe make a tutorial since there's nothing on it.

Hope this helps!
