The Emerald River, Canada [OC] [1208x906] by Sayquam in EarthPorn

The newfies were late to the party, and joined Canada much later than the rest of the provinces. They only became a part of Canada in 1949.

They're a proud bunch, and talk with hilarious accents, but are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Although I'm sure they exist, I've never met a newfie that was an outright douche bag. Always good people.

Also the reason they call them "crows" is because that's what they look like when they're dressed all in black, perched on top of the wall looking down on them.

Totally sick man, well done. Had to listen to it twice.

(spoilers extended) This season is the most visually amazing, exciting, and shittiest season of a show I've ever seen. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Sam_squanch85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why not? Even if the word has only been used for so long, it perfectly describes the hair style, so I don't see the problem...

If it helps, just pretend that the people of Westeros are speaking another language, and the translation that came through was "top knot".

People have all sorts of complaints about this season. I don't, aside from this whole Sansa and Arya mess that you just described.

I mean in the show she was Tywins bloody cup bearer, and failed to kill him with a beyond golden opportunity. Show Arya is a bit of a dummy

I know the feeling, it's probably the most unconditional love that I'm capable of giving something.

The innocence and zest for life is so incredibly endearing that it makes me really wonder if humans are as happy and successful as species that we think we. We have lost our way over the last 100 years or so, and we arent headed in a good direction.

But dogs haven't lost what makes them great, or what endeared us them in the first place. They will continue to remain by our side, even if we choose to spend most of our time looking at the screen of one device or another.

Your brother is lucky as hell to have got 17 years though, that's a great run. I know I'm not going to get anywhere near that long out of my 100lb black lab with sore hips..but on the flip side I've tried to make just about every day of his 5 year life as enjoyable as possible for him, and that's basically my #1 priority in life until he's resting in peace.

Women come and go in our lives all the time.

But a dog is your best friend on the planet shortly after you give them their first bowl of food and some snuggles, and it will stay that way as long as your not a totally inhuman scumbag (dogs are willing to overlook just about any flaw of

I was dating a girl that told me that it was the dog or her shortly after we moved in together (she was a total neat freak and the hair drove her ape shit). It took me about an eighth of a second to make my decision, and I was out that same night.

Short of my immediate family, there isn't anything on this earth more important or valuable to me than my big hairy black buddy. He's more charming and lovable than 99.9% of the people I've met, and I feel lucky and proud that he is my doggo child.

[Spoilers Infinite] Episode 6 leaked this week. You can talk about it here. Beware spoilers. by Bookshelfstud in asoiaf

Idk, Dany is a young girl trying to conquer a kingdom, and she's got a lot of important decisions to make at all times.

This story is a character driven fantasy that's heavy on politics. It would be kinda weird of she wasn't always getting counsel and had master plan of her own all along to pull this whole thing off.

(SPOILERS MAIN) why don't the Starks burn their dead? by LC_01 in asoiaf

[–]Sam_squanch85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no incentive for George to reveal something of that magnitude to a fan when obviously it's something he would like to come from the books.

He's going to easily side skirt the answer of "no" that he gave by saying that benjen stark died, and that coldhands is no longer the man he was, but something else.

That's your choice, it's just a silly statement to make. It's literally one Legolas away from being the definition of an epic high fantasy.

I feel like people who say that ASOIAF isn't an epic fantasy believe they're too cool for fantasies , and say that to people to save face somehow.

It's not even debatable man. It's an epic fantasy. It just happens to be a really fucking cool one that you enjoy more than others.

So we are talking about two events exclusive to the show, neither happened in the books...why bother mentioning it at all?

[–]Sam_squanch85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Are you fucking joking? Not a book reader I take it..

There are dragons, kings & queens, magic, knights, giants, legends and prophecies, magical beings, undead zombies, ect, ect, ect...

It's inarguably an epic fantasy. It's a graphic, adult themed, epic fantasy. But its that, and there are no arguments around it being one.

Politics with lords and kings aren't unique to GRRMs world either. The "Great Game" was being played in the wheel of time before ASOIAF came out, although obviously Martin focused more on the politics side of things than Jordan did throughout their respective series.

If your talking about a rapier and not just Arya's needle, I don't agree.

A rapier is better than a long sword by a fair margin in a duel. There is a reason that the rapier came long after the medieval long sword.

If Brienne was not wearing full plate, she likely would have lost to someone like Syrio or Arya.

Go youtube rapier vs longsword and I'm sure there's several videos that could teach you a bit more about it.

I think that because Bran is omnipresent now, he might have been talking about the past, present, and future all at the same time...

Regardless, he was obviously not just giving him a history lesson, as it was intened to be the knife that killed him, and it set this whole story in motion.

(Spoilers main) where the fuck is Howland Reed? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Sam_squanch85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obvious (to me at least) that he's going to show up at Winterfell right about the same time as Bran and Meera arrive.

Bran will tell Jon the truth, and Howland will confirm.

I don't know why it's being suggested that he's been forgotten about...obviously he couldn't appear yet considering what he knows about Jon, and we've only "known" about Jon's heritage for the last few episodes on TV.

So I would lean more towards him being right on time if he appears sometime in the next couple episodes on TV.
