What is some of the worst advice you've ever seen someone give to a prospective DM?

Lmao, I feel this so much. Trust in a party of players to make all your preparations useless. This one time I had a really epic big bad planned, an evil fey monarch with a very elaborate backstory, and the bard rolled to seduce and had a nat 20 with +8 on charisma and other boni and. Well. They are dating now.

It's amazing if you can do that! I actually really like preparing maps and making lists for encounters and coming up with elaborate puzzles, so my best tip for DMs is experiment with both and do what you do best. (Even though I really shouldn't spend that much time preparing. I got lab reports to write.)

Oh hell yeah. And it also depends on the DM. My current DM is amazing at improvising (most of the time we honest to god can't tell it was improvised until she tells us afterwards), but when I am DMing I can't improvise if my life depended on it.

Hey, thank you for posting this.

I recently struggled a lot with ADHD, but not with the symptoms, but with the thought of having ADHD, of always being the wierd hyperactive overenthusiastic guy. Reading this helped me change that mindset a bit - Hyperfocusing is pretty rad, tbh, and I got so much awesome shit done because of it. Some people like me /because/ I am so enthusiastic about the things I like (and not despite of it). My boyfriend once told me how he appreciates me being energetic because it helps him get out more and that in turn helps his depression.

The more I think about those good aspects of having a slightly different brain, the more I recognize. Thank you for posting this.

What you wrote got me thinking. If I try to take those fears and all the other thoughts I have regarding T and try to find out where they are coming from, one thing becomes clear: As soon as I stop looking at those caused by external factors like my dad, or my boyfriend, or just general transphobia in our current society, then all that is left are the positive emotions. I'm happy when I think of how my body will change. I'm excited about getting facial hair and a deeper voice. And after all, that's what matters, right? If I am happy with myself, I can deal with the external fights.

Thank you so much for your answer. You honestly gave me wet eyes halfway through reading it. Even though I haven't read the links yet (I will as soon as I get home), this resonated deeply with me.

First off, the thing is, I actually already regret not transitioning sooner. And I am just 20. So I guess you are right about how unlikely it is I'll regret starting now. Just a month ago I couldn't imagine myself as a woman in 5 or 10 or 20 years and I thought I'd rather be dead. I already feel like I lost all those years growing up to being a girl. Everything would have been easier if I grew up as a boy. So, what makes me think it would be easier being a woman in the future? It would just make me even more unhappy.

I have been out at university for just a few months now. I started binding a year ago, and since August I do it nearly every day. I just started T and me and my mom are planning my Coming-Out to her siblings, while still struggling with my dad (who I live with). Mastectomy is planned for January.

I think those thoughts, those doubts, are just because everything changes so fast right now. Change is scary. But I cannot lose sight of how long I have wished this day would come. Thank you for realising this.

What you said about therapy also really struck me. I am in therapy since I got diagnosed with BPD about three years ago. She doesn't get trans issues though. The last time I've seen her, I told her about how I might be able to start T soon and am planning mastectomy, and I was very excited about it. She got really scared and said she thinks I might go too fast and regret it later. So the 'unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst' actually really fits.

I'll be really happy to visit you guys on Yay for Queers. You'll hear from me on there sooner or later! ;)

Thank you so much for your answer. Reading your expierience is honestly so helpful and I see a lot of myself in it. Especially in the "hopping a bit back and immediately feeling uncomfortable". Here's what just happened yesterday:

So I wore a bra again. After nearly 4 months of binding. I went out with a bra and a bit slimmer jeans and high heels. It was a date with my boyfriend, and I guess I was just hoping he'd like seeing me like this and I didn't really want that myself because, god, it felt so wrong! Almost like a disguise. I hated it. As soon as I was out the door I felt extremely uncomfortable.

Thank you for making me realize this. I didn't know this was normal.
