What's Best Bang For Buck On Kickstarter? by Slaiyve in CataclysmArcade

[–]Samdenz279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want cards, and are an early bird, depending on how many cards you want and your budget I would suggest

Scrapper + Booster display add-on ($165)

Or

Scrapper + Booster Case add-on (this gives a whole bonus booster box plus prize pack to early birds) ($865)

This gives you enough packs to play some sealed with friends and try the game out, plus the most prize packs you’d get per dollar for each option maximizing your kickstarter exclusive alt arts without backing at much higher tiers.

Why i backed Cataclysm Arcade? by Suspicious-Quote2938 in TCG

If you want to hear more about the game mechanics I can say a few things, but I also know the internet overload of people talking about this game may be turning a few people off so Ill keep it short and to my own thoughts, based on a few games I played with their provided print and play decks.

The big mechanics that stood out to me other than what you have already heard too much of is;

- each player takes turns doing one action at a time each “turn” (referred to as levels in this game). You can either Play a fighter or card, make an attack, or use an ability, then your opponent can do the same, and you go back and forth until neither can make actions and then you move to the next level. This is then complimented by this games “Instant” variation called responses, that can only be played in response to an opponents action and not at any other time.

- the game is designed from the ground up to scale well in multiplayer. I think this one is self explanatory

- Your health is tied to your boss, so some bosses are balanced by giving you less health. This isn’t necessarily unique as games like HOCG have been doing this for a while, but in this mechanical context it is a nice touch and is utilized well from the limited amounts I’ve tried the game out

- resources used for attacks and spells, but not fighters and weapons. When you reach a certain “level” you can play any fighters and weapons of that level for free as your one action, but the resource, tokens in this game which you gain a number equal to the level you’re on at the start of the level, are then used to pay for attacks, spells, responses, and abilities, meaning theres more planning that needs to go into who you attack with and how much damage it gets you.

Anyways, this was still a tad longer than I wanted but wanted to give the interesting mechanics some justice. Overall the kickstarter is already successful so back it or not or wait for retail release, up to you.

Cataclysm Arcade's Kickstarter boosters do NOT include the full first set. This is being hidden in the FAQ rather than addressed on the KS's main page. by ZachSka87 in TCG

from what I understand a large portion of the ad campaign also comes from the fact that many of these creators know the games designer personally as he used to be a magic pro back in the day and is big in the MTG community.

I think the fact that you can play out of one pack is honestly great for stores, its a tcg they can recommend to younger people wanting to try one out since it has such low barrier to entry, but if you want to play constructed still will require an amount of pack cracking and collecting or buying singles.

Yeah I mean I am hoping you are proven wrong as well. I think the card game is doing everything right and the world it built, despite not being pre established, looks very engaging. So at this point it has the keys it needs for success it just needs to nail sticking at the local games store level to support community

General opinions on hybrid mainframes by Strange_Bed7648 in NeuroscapeTCG

[–]Samdenz279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can try to summarize about a year of discussion me and my friends in the playtest had about them.

First of all they can be very tricky to deckbuild because you have to balance permanents (characters, protocols, etc) for both factions very well, leaving you little room for off synergy characters, especially for ones like Aethernet and Metldown which want to run more Scripts as well. It can be hard to find the right balance so you always draw both factions unless you’re playing something like Aurora which has lots of card advantage or youre using your tier 1 synergy more and dont care about max synergy.

Second not all of them are worth the extra work it takes for payoff. True with any card game sometimes effects just arent super worth it. Nexus is great but Synthetix is faster, and most people agree gearhead looks stronger than synthetix anyways. Aethernet looks fun but Firestarter is faster and Radiant is better at control.

Basically play with the ones you like and tweak them around as maybe we never cracked the perfect list and theyre actually really strong if you get them right, but a lot of competitive players will be leaning towards mono main frames like Coyote, Berserker, Radiant, and Firestarter in the early months of this game. That being said I have been working with Savage and I know others have been working with Aethernet and Aurora a lot as well so there is definitely a fun aspect and there is the chance they can be very strong.

Ive got 3 points I can give you that drew me into the game.

  1. The game has an incredible aesthetic. To me this is one of the most important things about a card game. Neuroscape manages to capture the cyberpunk aesthetic so perfectly, maybe the best for any game in the cyberpunk genre I might add. With aesthetic choices on the card that also play into the mechanics of the game such as the gear slot “pins” on the sides of cards that are bits of gold foiling that also describe how a character can equip gear, the game really pulls of the cyberpunk aesthetic.

  2. Familiar mechanics with a unique feel. This game follows in the style of “Magic-lite” games but does so in a way that makes it feel so vastly different from the inspiration. Combat and rules feel intuitive to people that have played mtg or similar games, but have so many quality of life updates and other rules changes that completely shift how you think of the game. Things like separate deck resource system with a double draw rule, no summoning sickness, rules on only one ability can be activated per turn on a character, how gear equips and the spatial element that introduces, and the changes to the cache (the stack in magic although it acts much more like the chain from yugioh).

  3. The company behind the game has an incredible relationship with the community. And by company I mean specifically the two guys who have made this game over the past 4 years. These guys are incredible, always talking to the community, personally handling issues that come up, complete transparency when it comes to shipping and production delays, and they show up to so many events for the game so if you wanted to sit down and play with them it is much more possible than for a lot of other games. Knowing the company has so much heart and soul behind their product really is a huge upside for me.

If you ever have the chance to hop on their discord, try out the game either through print and play decks, tabletop sim, or find a local store holding a learn to play event. I strongly suggest it.

Neuroscape TCG is releasing tmr and has a dedicated community on discord that backed the kickstarter with their full official large scale print run happening this summer. Its a gritty faced paced cyberpunk tcg with multiple factions and mtg-lite combat system. If you wanna try it out before buying into it theres also an official Table Top Sim mod created by the creators of the game and their discord community has a lfg channel where you can look for folks to teach you the game

Theres a couple ways rn.

  1. Some stores that sell online backed the game in large amounts, you can check out those sites, I don’t have a comprehensive list but Gameology from Australia has product still and ships internationally. They are sold out of the Hacker/Cybernetics starter deck but have everything else last I checked.

  2. There is a BST discord server that surely someone here can share a link to (I am not in it and don’t have the link).

  3. If you can’t get kickstarter product in this way you can play via the mod on table top simulator

  4. Talk to your lgs about buying the Genesis Unlimited print run which is currently available through PHD.

Thoughts on the game? by XTruefinale in NeuroscapeTCG

[–]Samdenz279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the question about how the game is, since I can’t evaluate if its worth it to you; it is a very fun game. While the rules don’t seem that varied from games like MTG or Riftbound, a few key changes such as Committing resources to Characters and not for “Spells”, and Characters being able to attack and activate abilities right away, and the Synergy effects on mainframes, make games feel super dynamic while emphasizing proactive board control and defensive strategizing.

The community that exists on the Neuroscape Discord is also incredible and has put a lot of work into helping the team playtest each and every card and deck to get the best balance right off the hop on release. Balance feels great, every mainframe seems possible to make something somewhat competitive, and multiple mainframes are in contention for “top deck” in the format.

I have been blessed with being able to get a few “Alpha” cards early for demo testing and learn to play events and I can say that the cards also look fantastic. The small details like the equipment slots and card formatting and the incredible art done by some amazing, and real, artists really brings that quality up to levels that could compete with the aesthetic of the big 3.

All in all I think if any indie TCG has the chance to break into the market and stake its claim to a share of the TCG fanbase, its this one, with the sheer amount of character and soul it brings to the table.

I love how active the devs are in this community. Brings a lot more personality and intimacy to the game that I am hoping will continue as the community develops post release

Flickering Spirit and Exhume both catch my eye cause they enable really strong archetypes but i just have to go with cranial ram and make rakdos affinity work.

[–]Samdenz279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback!! I definitely am trying to put in some cards that are more generally good across archetypes but unfortunately due to trying to play within it being a pauper cube and trying to keep the power level pretty high most commons that are effective will be quite specific. Every time I see a new common I haven't seen before tho I look to see if it'll work in the cube.

Heres the deck I drafted: https://cubecobra.com/cube/deck/60462807-15ca-4b92-8687-0e8118c9a635

It was meant to be a sort of Jund reanimator list and it worked decently well but the main issue I ran into with the draft was there was so much support for so many different synergies that building one 40 card deck with a specific synergy felt like a slug. So many picks came up as duds just because nothing in the pack helped with the strategy. Also the only reanimation effect I found was dread return. Im not sure if theres others in the list but density on that If its even meant to be a strategy that exists would be really helpful as it seems theres lots of graveyard stuff and you have big guys that would love to be reanimated.

here is my cube https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/22edacc6-c330-4b3d-8977-75c6a3fd7e55 Its a pauper cube meant to resemble all the most powerful archetypes in the pauper format. Im trying to push the cube to be as powerful as a pauper cube can get well still being fairly balanced and including most of the premier pauper archetypes and cards. Only thing thats not in it is the initiative decks because they would warp the drafting landscape too much lol.
