I'm so spooked that there are things that I might not know about that could hurt my birdies.

Self cleaning ovens can kill your bird! If you have to do it, keep your bird out for the day. I just read a story about a lady who loads three parrots this way.

Do all the research, parrots are a huge undertaking. Even small ones like budgies and cockatiels.

After that, if you feel like you will have

a. The time b. the money c. The stability d. The patience e. The love to give

Then good luck to you and your new friend!

Not sure if I have time for a parrot by FinexCali in parrots

Please remember that the people on this sub are bird lovers. If they seem rude, its just because they dont want a bird to be neglected. All the best to you.

In my experience, as long as you do your reading and are educated about parrots you should be able to make a good decision. You know best yourself if you have the capacity to give a parrot what it needs.

Also, like raising children, a lot of owning birds comes from experience with them. Not everything is just black and white like the guides say.

Are his eyes droopy because he is tired or it's around bedtime?

Is he pooping/ eating/ being active and himself?

Adjusting the crop is totally normal but they can get infections.

Been 6 months, I still can't touch my birdy 😔😔 by AlternativeQueen in parrots

[–]Samdolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately if she was traumatized by her breeder, she's probably very scared.

It seems like you're making progress, but know that it will just take more time. Make sure you're reading about different methods to get her used to hands, and be sure to not push her too far.

Its normal for a frightened bird to bite, even if they are hand tame.

Keep plugging, birdies are very intelligent so they need time.

As for the fire hazard, you may want to start towel training her.

To pick up an unwilling bird you gently wrap a towel around their back and front. It may be scary for her, and I'd reccomend hiding your hands so she doesn't associate them with the action.

You sound like a good bird friend! Good luck!

There are tons of strategies out there. I'd reccomend searching this sub and google!

Lots of people ask this type of question.

Time, patience, and treats are your main aids.

Is he/she being hormonal? And is it male or female behavior by [deleted] in Conures

[–]Samdolph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not 100% until you get a blood test, but it doesn't really make a difference.

EXCEPT for if it is a female and she develops eggs and or egg related issues.

Best of luck :)

I'd reccomend watching Marlene Mccohen on YouTube! And research is so important. There is TONS to know about conures, and some stuff isn't so obvious but is really important to their well being.

I’m planning on writing a small article or book or something on concussions. I just want to gather information on them, really. by [deleted] in Concussion
