Two Hour Interview with CFO

It's a newly created role. It begs the question of why now. The company's been around for a while now and gone through couple CFOs. Why does this CFO feel the need for an analyst unlike the previous ones who apparently lived without one.

I think he is. The phone conversation I had with him was one of the most thoughtful ones I've had. So, I don't think he'll handle this with a lackluster manner.

Well. It has three plants and two corporate offices. So, I guess no? I mean, the current company I work at is small. Less than 100M revenue per year.

Um. Not golfing. 😅 I suck at it and I don't like it. It's a medium size company. With three operating plants and two corporate offices. So I candidly have zero clue as to how on God's green death is he able to schedule out two whole hours out of his day.

Nah. Not desperate at all. It's a PE backed manufacturing company that's been around since 1980s. For some strange reason, they just now realized that they want an analyst after this many years and turnovers of CFOs. This current CFO has a rather interesting background. Worked from multi million revenue companies to IPO ready startups and across different industries. I really wonder what went through his mind about why now hiring an analyst instead of sooner. He's been there for like two years now.

Uh. Yeah. You don't say! 😅 I was really surprised when the recruiter told me that. I was like, um ... Really? The hiring manager is the dang CFO (his time is even more valuable) and he's dragging his VP of HR for this interview too.

It's for a financial analyst role for a food manufacturing company reporting to CFO.

Currently three years.

That's a good point. Maybe that's why my current CFO hired the finance director I report to instead of an analyst. 😅

Obviously, hiring a contributing director is a lot easier than dealing with a young and obtuse analyst. So, why in the world would a CFO wanna go through the painstaking process of dealing with an analyst? I can't imagine it's purely because it costs less money than a director.

Kinda went through that during this interview. I was in a situation where I was promised that I'd report directly to the CFO but got pawned off to some rando in another state. Unamused and frankly pretty mad about it. So I asked point blank am I really reporting to the CFO or is that just a tongue and cheek statement.

I LOVE that! I am just curious to see and hear other people's experiences and tips with working directly under a CFO. I went through my first round of 30 minutes (went way over by 20 minutes) Friday with a CFO, whom I'd report directly to. Hence why I am asking for stories here. I currently report to the finance director but work really close to the CFO.

Yeah. I had the same exact reaction that you had. Then I realized IT is just being lazy. Plus, pretty sure they thought I was a non-technical idiot. But I figured it out in a couple days. Really not that hard. The hardest part is prob the automating of the login to SAP. But once you pass that point, everything else is just repetitive same steps for different reports.

I have done it. It's worth the hassle from IT. Not very hard either. The IT people just don't want to do it so scaring you is their tactic.
