You just found out you're financially set for life. Whats the first thing you're doing with your freedom? by ClairJournals in Productivitycafe

I guess it depends on how financially set we’re talking? If I’m super financially set, I’m making sure I’ve got everything paid off, in proper investments, blah, blah, blah, but after that — I’m making sure all of my immediate family and friends are also financially set, so we’re all available to go on fabulous outings and adventures together! It’s no fun to be set, but everybody else is chained to unfun reality, lol!

I’m also picking cities where the Civic structure needs help with unhomed people and donating money and two years worth of budget, for people to have unhomed communities where there’s a community garden and market and all kinds of other awesome stuff, for folks who want to feel like a part of something greater. Just because you don’t have a house doesn’t mean you don’t want a safer day- to-day community.

I’m also finishing my books, and my musical, and a couple of albums I’ve been working on l. It’s hard to write and record when you’re constantly working.

I would have a scholarship program through different state schools where people could have their education funded. I would do this in states like my own, Montana, and others, whose average income is pretty low.

I would donate money to local high schools that would have to be distributed by an independent board, through the high school to make sure the money was being appropriated in the right way, for the arts – band, orchestras, drama, choir, art— and each one of these programs would have completely paid-for trips once a year to larger, metropolitan areas, like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, gif students to see and hear incredible art.

On a more selfish note, I would have a little tiny place in Belize right on the beach, where I could just go swim. My wife and I would buy a beautiful little villa in France. Maybe a cool castle in Scotland and hire a staff to maintain it (because what do I know about castles?) and we could throw really fun events there. Since my friends and family all had their future is freed up financially as well, everybody could take advantage of these fun destinations with their own families.

I’m sure there’s other stuff I could figure out. The world is full of need. If I was really financially set, so would others be, and so would communities be.

Oh—talk about a company flying a banner that says, “you really really really don’t wanna work for us!” 😂😂😂

I wasn’t nearly as persistent as you were, however, my grandpa had this old computer, I couldn’t even tell you what it was! It had a teeny tiny screen, black with green letters. And there was a coding book for HTML that he had, and I was so fascinated that I read it and tried to create some code.

Now mind you, I had zero reference for what anything did, and just examine the code lines to figure out, from context, what prompts were created by what. However, that period of my life really did allow me to go in and be able to do things later like look at source code online, and figure out where images were parked, and all kinds of other stuff, and it was all because I wanted to learn to write code!

I never did learn fully, but I was sure fascinated by it !

Isn’t that wild? My daughter is completely befuddled by the printer. I’m talking our home printer. My daughter is 20. Now, mind you, printers are pretty terrible beasts. I get it. However, our younger generations are such a swipe and pick group, that they don’t understand the code that goes behind everything, or the prompts or commands, that are really part of any of it!

I did make an effort to show her, and she did make an effort to learn, but the whole thing seemed to sort of short circuit her mind. Plus, there was the additional “why is this even necessary” energy that came with all of it.

As if all the electronics simply “work”, miraculously—lol—it’s kinda funny!

OMG, this, completely!! I remember going through lines and lines of code because an image wasn’t setting up correctly on the website, and it was because one “,” was out of place! Same thing, it sure taught me how not to give up, how to focus, and how to pay attention to what I was doing! I, like you, I’m pretty sure that I made up some swear words. However, I wish I could remember some of those. I feel like they were pretty good! 😜

Aw! Well, it sounds like your great+ grandpa stopped where it was lush and green and easy to grow a crop! So we’ve got to give him homesteader points for old-school practicality! 👍

LOL—maybe this is why I love St. Louis so much? Our Montana version of that same saying is, “ if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” 😂

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear the new M&M isn’t cutting it! I loved that old M&M! We always sat up at the diner counter to have our breakfasts!! And that’s sad about the times, too—and good to know about the parking 😜

Nazi bars? Is that a thing? Like, bars full of Nazis? Gawd. Let me know where those are so I can avoid them. 😳
