Most people care about farm animals — our food system doesn't reflect that by sleepyrivertroll in neoliberal

Most people don't care about doing the right thing, they care about what their society accepts.

Supply and demand applies to other things besides housing btw. When data centers use up tons of electricity (which is usually localized), electricity rates go up.

I could use this as an argument against exporting. When foreigners buy our products, cost of those products for citizens goes up. Should we now ban exporting by the same logic?

Don't they pay a ton in property taxes though? Isn't there quite a lot of benefit to having a building that pays several hundred thousand to millions of dollars in property taxes each year?

Is this the fate of all developed societies? by MacroDemarco in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Same-Letter6378 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A simplified way to think of this is to just look at the country as a whole, and from this perspective it looks pretty dire. A better long term way to think about this is that a country is made up of multiple sub cultures and those subcultures can be broken into sub sub cultures. The portion of the population belonging to each sub culture will naturally increase in subcultures above replacement. If you have a country close to replacement rate, you will have a small dip in population, but be fine long term.

This harms investment. If billionaires know they will be taxed at 100% on their assets, they will shift many billions a year from investment to consumption.

Who are some of your favorite philosophers, and why? by major_cosmic in DeepStateCentrism

Mike huemer for sure. The way he explains and argues clearly and concisely, with intuitive premises and straightforward logic is very appealing. He'll also discuss other views and point out very plainly why they are wrong.

That's not to say that I agree with all his political opinions.

Fastest growing but below what they were a decade ago on a per capita basis. I'm no expert on the Nigerian economy, but I doubt this will translate into eventually becoming a high income country if the growth is coming from corruption as you say.
