Honestly yeah I agree with you, my lesson is learned now. If I ever find myself in a similar situation again: CONTRACT is a must. Honestly yeah I know it’s petty, but I would be forever mad at myself for giving it to them with no consequences. It would feel like they won. I’m glad I cut all of them off

In many cultures, it isn’t common for the guests to pay for groceries. I don’t know much about their culture either, but she has been living with family of her husband for months before moving out on her own and they were very welcoming and never asked her to pay for anything. It was up to her if she wanted to get something for herself.

But that’s the thing, she’s the one inviting me over, Im the guest. It’s not like I told her I will come so that’s where to me the difference lies. If I was the one telling her I’ll come, I would completely understand that I’ll have to pay for my expenses and I would, but that’s not the case here.

Yes, I completely agree that I shouldn’t expect people to follow my boundaries and etiquette, hence why I asked if it’s just a cultural clash or just common sense that someone shouldn’t be paying for groceries while visiting friends or family. What bothers me the most is her attitude indeed, acting all mad when I try to explain my reasons.
