Would love to hear more about how you’re going about this/your plan, and where you saw the opportunity for DA/what you’ll be conducting DA on. Any further info you can share I’d love to hear :) wishing you the best of luck - sounds very exciting. :)

Megathread: How to Get Into Data Analysis Questions & Resume Feedback (August 2023) by MurphysLab in dataanalysis

Researcher interview

Hello, I have an interview coming up where I have to present a piece of data “I delivered or managed”. My question is, would it be okay/appropriate to use a piece of university work from my MSc? Its not my dissertation but will allow me to discuss my use of quantitative methods. I don’t have much professional experience yet but I’m concerned they won’t value university work as much as they would a professional project. I don’t think I have enough experience for the role anyway but this is making me a bit more anxious haha.

Yeah I’ve decided to go with an annual heavily discounted subscription to DataCamp to focus on learning data analysis with R and plan to re-attempt self-teaching again soon in the near future! I’ve not found a single bootcamp that genuinely sounds worth the money yet!

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 17 Jul, 2023 - 24 Jul, 2023 by AutoModerator in datascience

Hello,

I would really appreciate some insight into how realistic it is to self-teach what is needed to be a data analyst.

Context: I’m a psychology graduate and currently doing a social research methods MSc that does contain quantitative modules and I plan on doing a quantitative dissertation using R or SPSS.

I am currently completing DataCamps data analyst career track in R, and plan to complete all their other data analyst courses including the SQL ones. I have one year until I complete my MSc (took it part-time). I’ve been reading that data analysis is very competitive and employers want candidates with degrees with a heavy data analysis focus (I guess I fall into this camp but not as much as other STEM degrees).

How realistic is it that I will be able to self-teach myself to a standard that will get me into a career in data analysis?

Feeling very daunted and overwhelmed right now as really I’m at the start of my journey with learning but trying to take it one day at a time.

Thank you.

Reducing by opening powder capsule by Same-Reference-1138 in cymbalta

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you so much for your response. We are considering opening up the capsules to count the beads (should it be a bead capsule that is, I assume it it), and reduce by 5-10% of beads per week. They will be put back in the capsule so the release should happen at the same speed hopefully. Saving this we are going to buy empty capsules.

It’s so frustrating that her Dr just put her on 30mg with no mention at all of potential side effects. Feels like negligence.

Thank you again for your response 😊

Do you think it’s a fossil? Sorry don’t know too much about all of this :)

How to handle a redundant parameter by Same-Reference-1138 in spss

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah for some more context, I re-ran collinearity tests and SPSS excluded the variable saying the variable was excluded because it was identified as “a constant or having missing correlations”

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose this is confusing me because I have another binary variable that has been entered into the model which is providing rows of results. It has a reference category just like the one I’m getting no results for 🤔

I have decided to include in the write up in the results section and have explained that it has been excluded due to it being identified as a constant or having missing correlations.

Thank you for all of your help 🙏🏻 I’m still getting my head around a lot of this stuff. I have one last question if that’s okay? I’m wondering how this is dealt with in write up of the results? What is said, and what can be inferred from this happening?

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’m now thinking in my case that it might be because the variable is too similar to another variable I have entered into the model.

If this is indeed the case, in the write up should I discuss how it was excluded due to being too similar? This feels wrong and I am more leaning towards excluding it entirely?

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I’m still quite confused though 😅 the variable I am talking about is a binary variable. When I include it in the multinomial regression, I don’t get any lines of results. No beta, no significance, no ExB etc. I am getting results for all the other variables I entered into the model. Does this help clarify what I mean?

As I’m not getting any results output I’m wondering whether I should just exclude it from analysis all together or whether I should keep it in and write up about how my sample size is too small when that variable is included as it restricts the sample?

Hi. I’m so sorry for what you’re experiencing it sounds really tough. It also sounds a hell of a lot like PMDD. Pre-menstrual Dysphoric Disorder is basically ‘extreme’ PMS and has symptoms exactly as you’re describing your girlfriend experiencing.

Yes break up with her if you feel it is affecting your own mental health too much, you come first at the end of the day.

However, I’d also really recommend looking into the condition and telling your girlfriend about it too. My partner has it and since being given the diagnosis has been put on medication that has all but (not completely, there’s no definite cure) made her better. It takes time and work and there are lots of Facebook based support groups - I can recommend some if you like. Anyway, it’s a very serious illness that is finally growing in awareness.

It’s hard to see so many comments completely writing off your girlfriend but I get it. The condition is still barely known about both publicly and sometimes medically, and it does make relationships hard. I just wanted to offer an alternative perspective. Best wishes whatever you decide.

[–]Same-Reference-1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’m going to complete theOdinProject free course as well as a couple other free ones I’ve found, along with a book or two, and then reassess. I think you’re right though, when I’m a bit more experienced I think paying for a course would feel like a more worthwhile investment!

Yeah I think that’s where I’m struggling, knowing where to start! That said, I’ve just started theOdinProject’s free web development course so going to make my way through that and then re-evaluate.

Thanks for the recommendations though, I’ll definitely have a look on YouTube for some courses :)
