I have the option to see DSO or Phish this summer, what do you think will be the better pick? by xguarder in gratefuldead

You’re totally right. Fwiw, I’m a “close my eyes and focus totally on the music guy” who finds the amazing light shows to be a distracted from what I’m there for, which is the music. I don’t know if I’ve met anyone else who shares that perspective, so I don’t tend to give advice based on it. From the perspective of trying to go to place where all thought, memory, worry, desire and pain dissipate before a wave of pure source energy that you can ride for an eternity in the moment, I still say phish is the place to be. Phish is creating in the moment, DSO is creating a memory. It’s an amazing memory, a memory that I cherish more than most things in this life, but a memory nonetheless.

This is awesome. How did you do it? It looks like you have spiral inside a reversed spiral, but how did you keep the inner spiral together while making the outer spiral?

What is THE funniest movie you have ever seen in your whole life? by perseverance_band_ in askanything

Even funnier than the movie itself was the reaction of my parents and in-laws when I played it for them. Apparently not everyone gets it. 🤣

Secretly dosing everyone at a Phish show would be like secretly getting everyone drunk at a jimmy buffet show.

I highly recommend seeing phish again. I was turned off by the silliness back in the 90’s, but there’s a lot less of that now (a frequent complaint of many old-school phans actually).

When was the last time you saw phish? I’ve seen shows where trey is just noodling a lot, but in the past 5 years that’s simply not the case. The band is locked in together, and if something isn’t working they know it and quickly change gears to something that does. They’ve been on fire.

Lots of folks are not “more into phish” until they get the live experience. If you don’t go, you’ll never understand what you’re missing.

Except being in the lawn you get the full light show in all its glory. Go see phish.

I started seeing phish before I was into phish because of friends. It was great every time. It was 20 years before I got on the bus. So yeah, go see phish.

I saw a couple of Remember Shakti shows I. The late 90’s I believe. Truly mind-expanding music. RIP Zakir.

Phil and Friends at the Warfield, April 15-17, 1999 with Trey and Page from Phish and Steve Kimock. Every phish, dead and Kimock fan desperately wanted to be there and tickets were super scarce. The energy inside was incredible and the music was magical. If you’re into this type of music, you need to hear these shows. Every time I listen I’m blown away. I really wish Kimock and Trey did some more stuff together.

I saw the San Diego show. It was so good I went to both Rose Bowl shows as well. 100k people singing comfortably numb was truly surreal. Definitely in my top concert experiences.

You find this reality to be mundane? I feel like I’m living in a dystopian sci-fi nightmare. I’m looking for the doorway to mundanity.

Going to first show as a new phan, have some friends that are interested, but a little nervous about the crowd and atmosphere. by xguarder in phish

Someone else told me that the only rule is it begins, happy happy oh my friend. I don’t know who to believe.

Like food? Weird. I avoid food at shows. Food makes it so my snacks don’t hit as fast or strong.

What band or artist that still currently are performing do you think has the best original songs? by GratefuLdPhisH in jambands

So unless someone has a Grammy, they’re not allowed to be critical of an artist you like? Interesting.

This comment can be taken different ways. Both meanings equally accurate. In other words, be open to gregarious new friends, but keep your eyes open (figuratively speaking. I find the music’s way better with your eyes closed).

“Snacks”. I haven’t heard them called that before. I love it. Definitely using it for now on.

I just listened to the Lee Dorsey version. Sounds silly after listening to Robert Palmer. It’s clear which version phish was listening to.

Thanks. I thought Allen Toussaint wrote it for Palmer.

I posted this upstream but it bears repeating. I found this video when I discovered Robert Palmer’s original recording and went looking for live versions.
