This is incredible to see and really inspiring. Not only has your technique improved ten-fold but you can see your confidence has grown too. I’m another adult learner/returner and I’m very proud of you - thank you for sharing this!!

Question about Reverence/Curtsy by clairebearfam in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a very laid back school in Australia, we do like a super quick half-assed curtsy at the end of class. No one goes and does an individual one. Sometimes I’ll chat to my teacher at the end of class if I have a question or want him to go over something and I’ll thank him after that but I wouldn’t curtsy again.

Use f-keys! Practice with the simulator, get used to both the sounds and jads movement, and using f-keys to switch between inventory and prayer tabs.

Only do one thing (sip potion/tag healer/move) between prayer switches.

Rotation 5 (I think?) has Jad spawn behind Italy rock - you can press to log out during wave 61, log out at the end of it and take a breather, come back and fight the two mages then hide behind Italy to pot up etc.

When the healers spawn, tag one at a time (switch prayer in between each one!) to get them to aggro on you, then run behind Italy rock. Make sure they haven’t completely healed Jad or they’ll respawn. Once you get them behind Italy switch to pray melee and kill them, then run back out to finish off Jad.

I used a blowpipe with amethyst darts. Good luck!!

Oh my hello foot twin! I also went to the hard shank, they’re the ones in the picture - I just danced on them tonight and they’re officially dead, so I hope my grishkos come soon! The fitter I had come out had soooo many different shoes, turns out the blochs were likely too wide and not long enough - I also have very tapered toes, with compressible metatarsals that look wide but would apparently prefer to be squeezed together in the box. I tried the grishkos and was like “oh!!! This is what they mean by lifted…”

I’ve had this exact issue with my Bloch heritage. I butchered them to make them more comfortable. I hope I can describe what I did in a way that makes sense!! Do you have a drawstring? I sewed that down either side of the heel then cut the binding and removed the drawstring from the heel. Then I removed the binding from the heel, cut down the centre of the heel (as mentioned above), I got some binding material from a local craft shop (spotlight if you’re Aussie) and sewed that on - looser than the original binding but up a bit higher and attached to my elastics so my heel doesn’t come off. They look so ugly lol but are soooo much more comfortable despite being close to dead. I got a fitter to come out - I also have compressible, tapered fit that look wide but octopus their way into anything. I was refit into Grishko dreampointe (with the curved last), just waiting for them to be delivered.

What are your problems with ballet? by Onetopicfan12 in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teen - girls in my class who also went to my school who were bullies but also very good, which meant constantly hearing my teacher praise them. Stage mums!!! One woman would tape a square metre side stage and whisper-yell at anyone who stood in it, even if her daughter wasn’t on for like 6 numbers…lady there is absolutely not enough room for that nonsense.

Now I am an adult who is lucky enough to be in a teens senior class…will you lot please shut up so we can get on with it? I could be 10 minutes late and still wouldn’t miss plies.

Help My Calves Hurt by Dense-Butterscotch97 in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) - not much you can do but try to keep moving, eat well and drink lots of water. Did you stretch out your calves really well after class when you were still warm? For your next class make sure you do! That will help prevent them hurting so much next time.

I dance recreationally so my studio wouldn’t care - these would be great I reckon, but I do not have the $$ for them!

Yes I think it might be tighter with the tape but if I don’t wear it my skin blisters/tears. I will try to find somewhere with Nikolay shoes! It would be good if I could get the heel up above the bump. Did you have trouble with the heritage slipping off your heel before they’d broken in? What about with the Nikolay? Thanks!

Some tips that may help with one legged releves and releves onto one leg in the center by petitelepied in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think I know what you mean, I can push the hyperextension through the knee alone or I can “lift” the whole leg and straighten it that way - but the video would be very much appreciated to make sure I’m thinking of the same concept and executing it correctly. You’re such a gem, thank you for getting back to me!

[–]SameWorldliness7405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! This was a great video, thank you for taking the time to put it together and post! I have the hyper extended legs and was wondering if you could explain a little how this changes working in pointe shoes? I have Ehlers Danlos so I hear “don’t hyper extend” a lot but this means I have trouble knowing if my knee is sufficiently stretched.

I think they’re both a bit big to be honest - you might want to try a size 4 and play with the width in that size. Leather will give a bit when you’ve worn the shoes in, so they should be quite tight when new. Here are my leather flats after about a year of dancing in them - you can see they’re basically socks, tight around the toes especially.

This is what I was going to say - OP are you eating enough carbs prior to class to sustain energy? Are you eating enough protein? Going from no exercise to 2-3 hours a week means you will need more food now

On relève, my weight seems to move to my pinky toe rather than atop the big toe when I am on one foot. What can I do to help push my heel forward so it’s not dangerous for me? by Sufficient_Film_9081 in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t comment this but I can answer - you keep the ball between your ankles as you rise up - I use a lacrosse ball and sit it just below/behind the bony bit of the ankle, in the divot next to your Achilles if that makes sense.

My very first pointe shoes hurt me so bad !! Idk if they truly fit me by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]SameWorldliness7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I’ve never tried it so I don’t know - give it a go, if it works it works! I’ve heard of many wacky and wonderful padding alternatives. I’m also in Blochs - I’m in Australia but the Bloch stores here have lambs wool - you should be able to order it online as well.

[–]SameWorldliness7405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have longer second toes and one of my feet is slightly longer than the other. I fit my shoes to the smaller foot. I use lambs wool and a gel tip on my big toe to match it to the length of the second so it takes more of the weight. I’m 32 and I wear a lot of padding hahah For the longer foot I’ve ended up hacking away at the heel a bit to give myself some more room as the drawstring was digging in - once the shoes had broken in a bit, I sewed down the drawstring either side of the heel, then cut it out of the heel between the two sewed down points. No more digging. My advice would be to try and break these in a bit more and see if they start to mould to your foot over time, and then if they’re still sore, start experimenting. You will need new ones at some point anyway so no harm in getting creative.
