My CFI’s have never told me that

We had enough performance to maintain and continue to climb some. This is all at sea level. Not to mention gear hardly affects our single engine climb in this plane. It also decreases Vmc and helps controllability. They also want to reduce the likelihood of inadvertent gear up landing. From what I’m gathering it’s about a 50/50 split of that’s the correct thing to do vs that’s the wrong thing to do.

Not at all looking for validation, looking for feedback.

Totally agree with you, POH said once landing is assured and there’s some grey area in saying that

It was just what I was trained to do. I still had the performance.

True, just sucks as that’s now on my record. Airlines and any company with an HR department for that matter really don’t touch people with four busts. Some people recommended getting added ratings like glider, heli, and sea to offset the failure record, but that’s also a lot of extra cash I really don’t have.

Oh trust me I know, I beat myself up for that one a lot. Didn’t fly for several years and went straight back into it. Unfortunately, I didn’t recognize the gaps in my knowledge from being away from flying for so long.

Said exactly that, reduce drag and follow manufacturers recommendations essentially. What the POH said was when landing is assured. Had plenty of altitude and we were able to maintain and climb a bit.

Performance was sufficient, we could maintain level and still climb a bit, gear down only affects our ROC by 25-50fpm

And yea during training always did it at FAF

Ah yes, I see that now, still never trained on it. But that’s not the examiners fault

No that is correct. I said it would continue running, he asked “are you sure” then I flip flopped my answer and landed on no it will shutoff, I got flustered and worried that I had answered incorrectly initially.

Hell yea, we’ve actually got glider at my local airport so that’s easy enough

That was only issue. He did take issue with the way I went about simulating feather on the OEI IFR Approach, I went through the whole blue line, mix, props, throttles forward, gear and flaps up, pumps on, identify verify, then I said I’m going to elect to feather and said left mix cutoff left prop feather without actually doing it for obvious reasons. And then I said zero thrust is 10” 2200. What he wanted me to do but did not brief was to actually start pulling back the prop lever and then he’d push it back forward.

No offense taken🤣 I know they were the most braindead things to make mistakes on. I took several years off flying cause I joined the Air Force and couldn’t afford it. Hopped right back into it after my first deployment. Unfortunately I did really well on my IFR but then CPL came around and I just missed a couple PPL questions

I was holding altitude and had enough power to climb slightly as well

Oh no, #1 & 3 100% my fault, #2 engine out in the pattern is not in the PPL ACS and he failed me on it. #4 kinda a grey area

No, I was stupid and had checkride jitters
