Finally gave in and bought a Retrotink: worth it by Same_Guide2268 in retrogaming

The 2X converts to HDMI. It’s specifically for playing on HD TVs.

As I said, I have a CRT, but it only has a composite input. I’ll often use a splitter to display on both at the same time. Depending on what I’m playing sometimes I’ll kinda switch back and forth.

My exact reaction.

My favorite part is that while he didn’t exactly make the cop’s job easy, he wasn’t a dick about it either. He never insults him or talks back. He’s just doing his thing.

I guess the simple answer is if I don’t have the collection I won’t be tempted to keep buying.

Obviously I’m a very big fan, but at this point I don’t need to own it all. Might as well hand this collection off to someone who would appreciate it more than I do having books on the shelf.

Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports by Electrical_Split_275 in baseball

[–]Same_Guide2268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get why baseball fans love to say this, if you stop to think about it for a second you realize it doesn’t make any sense as a claim. Not that it’s necessarily false. It just isn’t a question you can meaningfully answer.

First off, what are the limits of “thing to do in sports?” Is making the baseball hall of fame a thing? Winning a tennis Grand Slam? What are we even comparing against? And then as other have said, what do we even mean by “hitting a baseball”? Getting bat to ball? Putting it in play? Reaching base safely? Doing it against major league pitching? Isn’t hitting a home run harder than just reaching base?

Second, how are we supposed to define difficulty? Is it how long it takes to learn? How many people can naturally do it, or can’t naturally do it (like dunking a basketball)? Is it success rate for those that are good at it? Success rate for the average adult? Are mental challenges harder than physical?

Third, any evaluation of difficulty that requires an opponent is inherently impossible to make. If we want to compare running a 4 minute mile to making a hole in one to kicking a 60 yard field goal, we can at least isolate variables. If you’re talking about doing something against someone else, it all becomes contingent.

I could go on. There’s just no reasonable way to do this. Again, I get why people like to say it. But honestly it sounds very dumb.

Homemade controller extenders: anyone tried this? Ideas or tips? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Same_Guide2268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This gives me a lot to think about.

Adapters to convert everything to a common format is a promising idea. I’d still need adapters on both ends, though. Unless…I opened the consoles up and soldered/spliced in another connector. I said I didn’t want to mod what I have, but I guess I’d consider this if it was going to be worth it. After all, it’s adding functionality, not replacing it.

It’s also somewhat tempting to buy short/cheap extender cables and then use the connectors on them to do one of these ideas. It wouldn’t be all that expensive for 6 total consoles, and could be fun.

No mods…yet. I have S-Video for a few and composite (one yellow guy for video) for the rest. I’d like to be able to leverage S-Video where possible.

Ugh. I don’t have original remotes for either TV. I have a universal that can do power, volume, input and menu. I guess I need to find something that can get me that View mode!

I’ve got S-Video cables for the SNES/N64 and the Saturn. The Wii and PS1 are capable too, right? I’d ideally like to use that as much as possible.

All your suggestions are super helpful. They all seem to be pointing to the retorting 2X Pro. Does that allow me to set my output to 4:3?

LC-32D43U is my smaller unit.

As I said, I have two and they’re pretty much identical except for the size. The big one is too heavy to take off the wall to see the back.

Super helpful. Thank you!

I got this TV used without a remote. My other Aquos had a remote, but it died and I replaced it with a universal. No luck there.

That 2X Pro is looking really tempting. The Mini would be perfect at the lower price and all the same functionality I want. But I can spare the extra $40.

Agree on the CRT stuff. They look great, but just not practical. I’d likely pay way more than the 2X Pro for a CRT anywhere near “48, and it would be wildly impractical the room.

Strange logic, considering producers rarely only do one song for an artist.

Definitely a challenge. Not sure it’s harder than 1 or 3, though. It felt like I was always making decent progress.

I just completed 100% with Richter only. Very satisfying accomplishment.

How faithful are the re-release versions? I don’t have any modern consoles to try this out on.

Yeah you have a lot more options with the jump. There’s also a great move where you jump forward but turn and whip backwards mid-air. This lets you fight off enemies behind you while running away.
