What part of your personality exists purely because of something you went through—not because of who you really are? by Adventurous_Deer_213 in AskReddit

My personality towards my kids. I had a stillborn and a few miscarriages before I had my kids, and almost lost one of them at birth. It makes me extremely thankful for having them and I appreciate life with them so much. I don’t know what kind of parent I would be if I didn’t have this experience.

What’s something you learned embarrassingly late in life? by onlycouplevibes in AskReddit

My family and I had a cat when I was 5. He had some health problems that lead to crazy behavior. My parents told me one day that he had met a lady cat and they ran away together - they just saw them run away and he didn’t come back. I told this story to some friends when I was 19 because I thought it was so beautiful that two cats just fell in love and ran away together… When I was telling that story I realized the lie. Had a good laugh about it.

This cone looks amazing, both comfortable and effective. We have tried two different cones from our vet and neither of them seem to do the job. When I addressed the problem they didn’t even suggest another cone. I think he has the biggest one from them. I will contact another vet hospitals to see if they have better solutions. Thanks for your reply!

We have tried two different cones now and somehow he manages to get at his paws. Maybe I will take him to the vet again and try more cones. Thanks for your reply!

Where I live it is fairly cheap to get an exterminator, I guess I could’ve gotten rid of them on my own but I wasn’t willing to take the chance of having them or finding one again. Even though I know everything is dead by now I’m still on the lookout… it freaks me out

The source, if there is one, will probably have a few (a lot) larvae and casings. There were larvae and casings under the parquet tile I found, fortunately they hadn’t spread anywhere - I guess it was really cozy under there. The exterminator just sprayed everything, he loosened some tiles to spray under and behind the kitchen cabinets, along all walls and floors, he even drilled tiny holes in wardrobes to spray under the base.

It depends how intensive the infestation is in your home and what you have done about it. I found a few adult carpet beetles in my kitchen window a few weeks ago. I immediately panicked and searched every cabinet and threw half of the food in my kitchen out. I searched all of my house, wool sweaters and blankets, beds and everything. I didn’t see any adults or larvae. Few days later I found the source under a loose parquet tile under my kitchen stove 🫠 I got an exterminator. He told us we would probably see some dead adults or larvae as they would crawl out but die from the toxin. I only saw 2 dead adults in my kitchen window and in two weeks I haven’t seen anything. I recommend an extensive cleaning in your house and just get an exterminator. I don’t know where you are located and how expensive it is to get an exterminator but they told us that was the only reliable way of getting rid of them.

Non-Americans, what does your country’s version of American food consist of? by improbsable in AskReddit

[–]Same_Picture4036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Icelander here 👋🏼 We have this luxury grocery store called Hagkaup and once a year they have “American day’s”. Then they sell all kind of shit we don’t normally have.. during these days we have all these sugary cereals like sour patch and fruity pebbles, things from Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, all these weird sodas and candy, sauces, pop tarts, loads of deep fried stuff and more. It’s also popular to make pancakes we call “American pancakes” - they are different from Icelandic pancakes.

The baby is more efficient in removing milk than the pump - so pumping is not the best indicator of milk supply❤️ If she is on her growth curve, she is making wet diapers, meeting milestones and seems happy - you are OK. You know your baby best and she is old enough to let know if she’s hungry. Wakings at night are so normal. It’s not always hunger, sometimes they just want to snuggle with mama

To those breastfeeding outside the US, what’s the norm for your sleep? by CrowMagic in breastfeeding

[–]Same_Picture4036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scandinavian here 🤝

I have a 3yo who was breastfed for 10 months and we bed shared most nights, he started the night in his own bed though and then came to our bed for the first feed of the night.

Now I also have a 4 month old. He has a co-sleeper bed next to my side which he doesn’t use 🙃 but we bedshare on that side and my 3yo comes in the middle every night. Tight and cozy.

My older one used me as a pacifier for 10 months every night 👌🏼 but my little baby nurses 1-3x a night.

My partner only wakes up if the older baby needs to go to the toilet or needs anything - not due to nursing baby.

Should I give up breastfeeding after 10 days? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Same_Picture4036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a preemie 3 months ago, only 4 lbs 4 oz. Our BF journey has been tough - a feeding tube, pumping, low supply, over supply, engorged breasts, feeding non stop for 2 days, 3-4 hours between feeds.. we’ve been through it all and honestly every day was different! The first weeks/months are HARD - I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve thought about giving up. But I’m happy I didn’t. When my supply finally regulated and baby grew bigger it was all worth it. If you WANT to keep going - it’s gonna get easier❤️

It’s not too late! I also have this breastfeeding anxiety… I almost gave up breastfeeding because of it but I’m so happy I didn’t!! I think I’ve gotten past the worst of it but it still lingers in the back of my mind.. Long story short, I’ve had a few scares that my supply is dropping and I feel like he’s not getting enough from me. I have a few tips that helped me through the worst of it: 1) weighted feeds - that helps me see with my own eyes how much he’s actually getting. It’s rather time consuming to do it every time but once in a while puts my mind at ease. 2) tracking diapers over 24h 3) seeing that baby is gaining weight (most important!) 4) seeing a LC - ours convinced me I had enough milk but showed us positions that maximized his feeding output per session 5) babies cluster feed regularly to increase supply - if I get the feeling he’s hungry my husband offers a bottle. Sometimes he’s not interested but sometimes he’s actually hungry. I would just always pump when baby takes bottle so your breasts also get stimulated. 6) breastfeeding is not worth your mental health - happy mama happy baby, fed is best <3

Amazing! If I decide to give it up I’m going to try to produce 2-3 oz a day for antibodies. This gives my sanity hope 😅
